i used a mineral oil i was told it hardens the shells?

£16 from my local motor factors. 10/40. used it for 100 miles revs no higher than 3krpm
then did another oil change for the same stuff for another 300 miles revs no higher than 5krpm
then chaned it again for final 300 miles revs no higher than 5krpm
and then finaly put silcolene pro s in and drove it normal with boost for short sperts until i felt ok to abuse it lol
hill climbs are suposed to be good for bedding in the shells?

Thanks stu ant watoga, a very interesting read on that artical, this bedding in procedure was a topic of conversation between me and a mate(the guy with the mk2 in the back of my last photo) the other day. He was saying how he swears by it and I took on the 'do what the manual says' arguement!

A very convincing read. I may have to eat some humble pie infront of my mate later ;)

Can anyone else recommend this method?

I think stu means rings not shells, you can buy proper running in oil from millers pretty cheap.

I am a fan of the harcher running methed,in fact i am running in a different car atm and all seems well so far.

Also google puma racing and read there article an bedding in rings aswell.

The engine I'm building at the moment will be getting some boost and 3500-4000rpm right from the first time its run, 200-300 miles should be enough.

I'll let you know the results in a week or so

Thanks Watoga, Ive had my head in those webpages for days now, there's some amazing info in there. how did your bedding in go Markturbo?

Im waiting on the Head to be returned at the mo, having it shimmed and skimmed but the company are bloody taking their time over it very frustrating as the last couple of days at work have been dead and I could have made some serious progress!

anyway I spent yesterday modifying the cosworth head gasket two hole reamed satis!

Not a big fan of braided lines. The lines on the block atm are the ones that came off my other engine, they will be swapped back for cleaner sold pipes when I swap the engines over again. Would be interested to hear how reliable these braided lines are on cars?

The main advantage of the braided lines is that it makes it a lot easier to get the turbo on and off; you can just line it up, bolt it down, and connect the lines to the block. With the steel lines you have to try to keep those all lined-up as you put the turbo back on.

Your engine looks like mine at the moment, shall we have a race to see who's is built first

At the moment you're ahead of me with yours, I haven't enlarged the holes on the cosworth gasket yet. I've actually got my head though so will be building it today and getting it back on later hopefully.

Your on mark! I'm hoping tomorrow or tuesday will be when the head comes back. Otherwise I'm back at work and you'll have a week on me.

I can understand that those lines are a right twat to get right. On that note off the top of anyones head does anyone know the Internal diameter for the copper banjo washers on the turbo lines? I seem to remember it being bigger than what my motor factors could offer

It's all been chemically cleaned, would never have an engine blasted as I've seen what the grit does to engines if you don't get it all out!

I've had some work done on the exhaust ports but left the inlets alone.
