We need a 3" exhaust!!!

I was reading a post somewhere (OZ or NZ Forum I think) about the differences in bhp when swapping exhaust parts from the 2.5" mongoose and a custom 3" system, the best torque and power came from an external wastegate, 3" turbo elbow, 3" front pipe + 3" flexi and all connected to the remainder of a 2.5" Mongoose system from the first silencer back.

This is what started me off in the search for a 3" turbo elbow and front pipe combined. Stelth Systems in Southampton are in the process of making a one peice, combining 3" turbo elbow and 3" flexi joint all the way through to the first mongoose box. Heres the original tread http://forum.gtiroc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=10493&highlight=dump+pipe

Now I'll see if I can find the OZ/NZ tread again.

I`m in the middle of getting a custom 3" outlet made, the drawings for the flange are at the laser cutters and the company has sourced the bends needed.

They are a race exhaust specialist and have made manifolds for the MR2 turbo owners club and are busy making manifolds and douwn pipes for mitsi and scooby race teams, so they know there stuff.

I`m only really looking for a front pipe but have told them there is interest for a full system on here.

They are willing to design a full system with a choice of tail pipe designs, if any of you guys are interested.

I`m not quite sure yet but i think were gonna make it a one piece pipe
(to the cat/decat) i.e, no joint at the elbow.

With a flexi of course!!

I`m gonna get sum pics on sat of the flange and hopefully an idea of a price.

Hey guys,

I recent had a workshop here in Australia make their GTiR twin dump pipe jig on my car (which has aircon). Their offering the dump pipe and the piping to the cat (which include the flex pipe) for $AUD1180. Not sure how much that coverts to in Pounds.

I don't want to spam this thread with an advertisment so I'll let people PM me if they want the name of the workshop.

Sasha in Sydney also makes a different version of the GTiR twin dump.

All in all it's not going to be hard to get comparable performance from a twin dump and a 3inch dump. Twin dump, as people have mentioned already, has the lack of turbulence as well as being able to 'split up the volume' and re-route where teh dump pipe travels.

EDIT:

Here's a few pics

Im getting a 3" front pipe/dump made up in the new year. Theres a thread in buying and selling.

Price at the moment is £350 for all the way from turbo to de cat. Thats for 5 of us, he really wants to do 10 so it could be less if more people want one.

Wel i think i can safely say that its goin to be quite a bit cheaper than £350.

They quoted me £120 from the outlet to the cat and i very much doubt its gonna cost more than £50 to manufacture the outlet itself,

We were in talks of about 300-350 from turbo to tip, but dont hold me to this figure.

Went to the manufacturers yesterday and they wanted to have a look at my car to see what sort of clearance they have to play with.

I`ve agreed to let them hav my car for 2 weeks while i`m on holiday from the 31st, so they will have the outlet and front pipe made when i get back.

I`m not gonna have a mid section made coz i want to keep a little back pressure as i`m not putting out mega power.

The 2 1/2" 5-Zigen mid i hav on is meant to hav the straightest run of all the R zorsts, it aint got any expansion or muffler bits either so i will be ok!!!!

They will copy my mid section in 3" and make it available with mufflers or expansion bits in it for peeps who dont want the noise!!!!!! (mine is really loud!!!! )

Price wil be confirmed when i get back!!!!!!!!
