I'll have a chat and find out mate... I lost interest when they told me they were using the std casing which is the part that seems break these days...

Just sent Leigh of Hollinger an email so see what the deal is with the boxes....

Also reminded him of the casing issues...

thanks mate but if they are going to be using the standard casing its a waste of time as like you say thats the weak link as they norely split in my experince

i was looking at ppg but its nice to have others to choose from aswell

only ones i know of is ppg/par/qauife/bekker unless theres anymore

thankyou

This is what i got back...

Rishi,
Thank you for this enquiry.
We have had a large increase in orders for our current product range in the last 9 months and do not have the time or capacity to add any further kits in the foreseeable future.
Sorry we could not be more helpful.

Best regards,
Leigh Nash.

Sorry guys...

think so but not completly sure and at around 5k i dont fancy taking that chance unless i know ity will work

have been looking through some old post about using the evo box as they are good for decent power but its just getting it converted to fit the pulsar

but anything is possible and i would probley go with the 5 speed instead of the 6speed that everybody is on about as from previos experice of driving the evo 3 and the evo 8 i much preferd the setup of the 3 as i found it a pain as on the 6speed they just seem to run out to soon and another gear chage is needed and that was on a standard car

not completly sure about the power the evo 3 box can take but of the top of my head they normely just lkock the diff for around 600bhp cars using the evo3 box but could be wrong

but just keeping my options open as i am not completly sure what to do at the moment

im totally confused as too how the casing cant be made to stand the stress. if supras and skylines can have 1000bhp, why cant we just replicate their technology? is it NASA stuff? can no one in the club look into it? i dont mean phone around lots like Rishi has been kindly doing, but experiment themself? correct me if im being far too optimistc :)

Supras and Skylines both have thier engines mounted the other way and so have so much more room for the gearbox... This means much thicker gears and stronger casings are far easier to make...

EVO's and Scoobs have more room too...

All you need is to get the moulds for the GTiR BOX... Then make it up with with a stronger material and you could even make it thicker... Now i looked into this cost and its about £15k...

Either way its not going to be cheap...

The only thing i can see in happening in the forseeable future is the use of a 1/2dog box from the likes of PPG or even Quaife... But we need to order a minimum amount before either company will make us a gearset... Straight cut 1st and 2nd will take away the force that causes the input shaft forward out the casing...

just sent a email to mazeworx in newzeland to see if they would be intrested in making some sort of adaptor so the evo box could be used on the gtir or to see if they have anything else that they could offer

they have made a few adaptor plates for nissans 200sx before so they could use the 300zx box and the price was pretty good incuding shipping to the uk

but like rishi says there isnt much more out there to try realy

will keep you informed when i get any info back

I think it was Reyland or someone I saw using a GTR box in Cosworth. They made up a bellhousing to suit. Wonder how much they'd charge?

Quite right... Reyland used an adapter so they can mount the OS Giken OS88 6-Speed Sequential Box to their Escort Cossworths...

Rishi,

Which box are you planning to use?

Reason i'm asking is that i'm aiming for c600bhp/600nm and seriously worried about the casing holding up to that kind of strain. Theres a few posts about brackets, plates, cryo, shot peening etc (mine is shot peened atm) but no real success stories of these working very well to the best of my knowledge.

I had a chat to Simon Norris a while ago about mate'ing up the Evo box, but his initial thoughts were that it would be a huge and very expensive job. Did anyone look further into this?

Cheers, Andy

the gearbox front looks doomed on the R unless some millionaire decides to research it for us :(

all this talk about evoboxes on a gtir is very good but i doubt it will ever happen. Fitting a different inline box to a different engine is one thing, you've only got to line up the input shaft and make an adaptor, obviously easier said than done, but far less involved than with our set up

To try to fit a whole different 4wd drive system, first off the gearbox has obviously got to go on and line up, then you''ve got to get the transfer box on, then the driveshafts have got to actually fit in the right place and match the hubs, then the prop, then the rear diff is probably going to have to be changed aswell, then the rear shafts, then theres the fact the evo box is cable operated, you might aswell chuck the engine in tbh then you've only got to change mounts and abit of wiring..lol

a nice idea but i dont ever see it happening
