Raising the compression?

the pcv valve and associated pipework are a well known black spot for vacuum leaks, an easy way to check if your PCV valve is playing up is, when engine is warm i.e. after a drive for longer than 10 mins or so, leave engine idling and pinch together the pipe that leaves the PCV valve (item 1 in the pic above), if your idle speed drops/decreases then theres a very good chance the PCV valve is gunked up and can't close properly so it's in need of a clean or it just plain nakerd and needs chucking out.

Yeah gumetalgtir, done the fault code already, and its clear no codes at all.
The car had been sitting off road for while, but still have the flatspot when on prat and half throttle, so going to give MAF a clean and see if it helps a bit.
The thing aswell, when its cold, its runs sweet as a nut and boosts heavily!!!
But once its warm, thats when it starts to mess up!
Floor it and car is holding back even when boosts comes in, and you lift off and it wants to go, pain in the ring peice it is lol.

Got a spray can of brake cleaner to spray over the inlet while its running to see if it has a wee air leak in the throttle body housing some where.

On my old R it used to feel like it was holding back when warm because the coolant temp sensor was knackerd, dont understand the reasons why, but maybe it could be the same with yours ?

sounds like you got the same problem as mine  its so bloody annoying, mine takes about 10 mins of driving before it starts to hold back then its just a pain in the a**s to drive :x

Yeah i thought the coolant temp sensor was faulty too, so i have changed that already, that was really one of the first things i done.
So the night i re-earthed the MAF and adjusted the TPS as in the guides and its helped a bit, not holding back as much when warm, but you can still feel it.
But on ma boost gauge i only have a vacuum of 10 Hg(summit like that) on tick over, plus when its coming on boost you can here a wee whistle and then clears soon as the boost comes in, so got a wee leak some where.
So tomorrow all i need to do is spray brake cleaner over the inlet and see if its drawing it in anywhere and hopefully i have a gasket perfarated somewhere!!
Will let you`s know the outcome the morra

Well took the car for a drive to carlise the smorning to pick up some spares for work, and what can i say, no hesitation, no flat spots or nothing!!!!
Its a totally different car to drive now and the power is so much better, pulling alot harder in everygear.
And its also lost its flat spot when gunning it from the word go.
But we shall see how long it last for.

So basically get the MAF re earthed and set up the TPS this will help out rough idle and also any wee problems with hesitation and try and help narrow it down.

Also i have ran a new earth straight from the battery onto the gearbox casing and also took a lead from it up to the plenum, and its has payed off!!!!

Help pleaseee!

Hi guys, couple of things may have led to this but now really stuck as to what it might be :?

Firstly my rotor arm came off and smashed to peices so was replaced at local garage but then when i picked it up it felt like it was running about 100bhp as aposed to 350! so went and took it to a tuning specialist who reconed the 1st garage had just played with apexi avcr and safc and reconed setting them up would solve it so had it booked in.

Then just b4 it was about 2 be done some f***ing chav put my window threw and robbem them.

So fited new boost controller and afc neo yesterday but car wont really rev above 3500rpm and is seriosly down on power - as struggles to get up hills! does this just sound like they need setting up properly or could it be something more serious?

O yea and just had gearbox recond and new clutch to.

Lol sorry about the essay but any ideas much appreciated

How much does the whole engine weigh? I mean the head, bottom end, with the in-take manifold. :der:

Search Bud!!!

The bare engine, no manifolds/turbo/ etc etc weighs 96kg. I think with all the ancilliaries bolted on you could be upto around 130-140kg

Transfer box 36kg
Transaxle (gearbox) 47.2kg

Picture 5 looks like the feed to the starter motor. Is the first one the connector for the boost solenoid?
