Winek, I think Steve means on the gate side rather than the actuator side. I'd agree as I'm still not convinced either even though I know you've told me its setup up correctly.

hi !

i will remove my dump pipe before reinstall and check everything.
as there are no leaks on my inlet it must something with the wastegate.

thanks
bye.

The actuator holds the wastgate closed so without it will flap about. with the actuator disconnected you will need to hold the wastegate closed.

You could leave the actuator on and disconnect the vaccum pipe to it stopping it from opening and beelding off the exhaust gasses.

hi !

yes,maybe.
i will install i new one when it arrives.

but you cant move the rod by hand,it seems to hold very good.

thanks

hi !

ok,engine is in again.
checked everything for leaks etc.
pressurized the system.
everything is fine.

but i still got 0.5 bar at 4000 rpm...
will do a compression test today.
maybe its my head gasket - but water is ok.

what boost do you have when car is standing ?
i got 0.12 bar at 5000 rpm.
should it be more ?

thanks

hi !

engine is fine. compression etc. is ok.
i installed a 1 bar actuator now.
work fine. but i get 1 bar around 4500 or so.
at 4000 i have 0.5 in 2nd and 0.7 bar in 4rd.

maybe its the turbo.
but i get 1.8 bar at around 6000.
so i dont think something wrong with it.

today i tried other plugs, leads and blowoff valve, original maps - no effect

any ideas ?
i really dont know what to do now.

thanks

I still think you must have a tiny boost leak somewhere, have you tried a different boost controller

hi !

i tried it without boost contoler - no effect.
actuator is 1 bar and i get exactly 0.98 bar,but very late.

can the distributor cap/finger cause this problem ?

thanks

I admire your endurance Winek.

Its probably a bit late now but when you had your 3071 off, did you try blowing on the blades. My 3071 would rotate like a childrens windmill that proved the bearings were free. Or when you switch off the engine, does it sound like a jet engine just switched off? every other 3071 I know does this even if no boost was generated on the journey.

How does the car drive off boost? Is it a dog? Mine feels like a 2.0l NA which is exactly what it is.

A part from turbo the only other thing I can think of is valve timing, maybe the cam chani is in wrong or your valves are shimmed really badly.

Can you do a datalog in third from 2K to 7K to see how the car is using your PFC map

ok, heres my advise!
only just read this thread.
a lad (chris) came to see me a couple of weeks ago to pick some parts up, and he had the same problem with his turbo but it was a t28.
i told him that it was very likely that there was either an internal crack in turbo (across wastegate) or in housing, which was opening up when vehicle got hot.

so he removed the turbo and sure enough it was a hairline crack across wastegate which was'nt allowing turbo to build above 0.5 boost!
so if i were you i would remove it, remove elbow and get a magnifying glass to check for fractures in the casing (especially across wastegate) as thats where they most likely go.

hi !

yes,the turbo sounds like a jet for maybe 20 seconds or so.
so it seems ok.

timing is set to 20,valve clearance is perfect(just checked)
will try to post a datalog. but i dont have boost connected for datalog.

my turbo has 2 or 3 small haircracks round the wastegate,
but they are covered when wastegate is closed.
i have seen cracks like that on several good working turbos.
maybe thats the reason.
where can i get a new exhaust housing ?
i think thats the last thing i will try out.

my turbo builds much more than 0.5 bar. but over 5000 or so.
i get even 1.8 bar. the problem is that it spools very very slow.

thanks

hi !

one more thing - do i need to change timing with 272 cams ?
or can i leave it standard 20 degrees ?

thanks

My wastegate housing was cracked and the gate its self was cracked but it had spun round so the crack was behind the arm.
