Get the turbo bolted back on, running etc, round for an MOT and then
(he whispers) off for some mapping!
Well... that was a load of bollocks.
This time the oil feed to the turbo decided to leak prompting a small pool of oil on the floor.
On further inspection it appears that a modified thread oil feed that was originally installed has stripped a couple of threads off in the block and allows oil to leak around the threads (also it felt loose, just in the block)
When I originally went to tighten it up, I could feel that the nut was and tightening and the feeling of the thread turning with the nut was not a fun feeling.
This has now been removed and I've taken a couple of threads with the bolt when I remove it.
I then cleaned out the hole as best as I could and cleaned the bolt up I added blue thread locker to hold it in place and tightened it up.
Everything seem to tighten up nicely and I left it to seal overnight (about 12-14hrs)
Next morning everything felt good so I started the car and over a 5-10 min warm up, things seem to be ok, I did some mapping adjustments at idle to hit a more stable 14.7 afr at 850rpm.
Revved the engine a couple of times to see if there were any leaks and low and behold, the oil feed was leaking even more.
Bear in mind that I've had the exhaust off three or four times and the entire manifold system on and off 3 or 4 times, I’m getting pretty f’in annoyed!
I also had to check that oil was reaching the turbo so I had to pull off the oil return pipe and allow that to drain off in a small tub, which thankfully it was.
I then removed the exhaust from the turbo, removed the thread to see another bit on the block thread around the bolt and that the blue locker had not worked!!!
So unless I didn’t leave it long enough to cure, or not enough locker, I dunno!!!
On top of that, a sprung another leak from the back of the engine, so that will need the plenum removing and replacing that pipe!
On a positive note, the manifold did connected nicely to the helicoil kit a installed and there has been no issues with that thank god!
So now I'm in a predicament where I can't really drill the threads because I could potentially put contamination into the engine.
Very kindly, Jim is going to pop round in a couple of weeks and we're going to put our heads together to see what we can come up with.
I’m open to suggestions here too!
One step forward, 3 steps backwards!
Below this is where I left it!!!!
