my day at york raceway

I went in the end along with 3 other R's.We were all running really shit times.Think my best was 13.2 at 105mph with a 4.6sec 0-60.I couldn't work out why it was so slow until I started watching my boost gauge instead of the speedo and saw I was peaking at 0.9-1 bar and only holding 0-65-0.7 for most of the run so basicly narly standard boost ffs.Its my own fault I accidentally reset my boost controller so need to ask Ed for some settings again. Also, for some reason my fuel pressure decided to drop really low but even after I put it back to 3 bar it made no difference due to the low boost.
Was gutted really as wanted to see what car could do but was basicly running about 50-60bhp down on what it should be so I came home before I broke anything.

A mate came in his standard clio 172 and that managed a flat 15 with a 6.7sec 0-60 which I thought was very good for 170bhp.

Times were nothing to shout about with the quickest been 12.8 0to60 4.4sec and top speed of 106mph running 320bhp and the same torque. My First time on any quarter mile. nothing done specificaly for quarter mile. part stripped rear end half a tank of fuel and roll cage driver weighing 14.5 stone 2860 turbo far from ideal for the quarter.Still a good day was had nice to meet a couple of members for the first time.X4 R's went and X4 all drove home working (bonus). No excuses here but it was mentioned that many cars that had been there the previous weekend inc a astra gsi turbo and the bikes were down on times.A head wind but hot day did not help we got sun burnt without realising due to the wind and my pace intercooler which normally dose well struggeled with intake temps from 36 to 40. time for a pump for my intercooler spray bar and wraping of pipes i think. must mention dan (johnsy) who improved times from his previous and after hitting a stage where no matter what could get no faster tried everything and put in as many runs as possible right to the end

Johnsys' tyres must have been nearly flat by the end, he kept letting air out after every run.

I've had a fettle with my boost controller and think I might have sorted it but not tested it as had a few pints instead of driving it.Has anyone got any Greddy E01 or profec B settings I can compare against?Have set at 85%, gain at 25 and start boost at 1 bar.Think that should hit 1.2 bar as wastegate is 0.65 bar.Have set the warning feature to drop boost by 15% if it hits 1.3bar.
So frustrating racing that audi ttrs mullering it off the line every go and losing when I know if all was well I would have been going a second quicker and 10-15mph faster ET.Had a look up of them and they are 335bhp and 400nm(think thats 300lbft) at 1600rpm!

I only managed a 13.2 @ 101mph and my best 0-60 was 4.6, i only adjusted the psi from 31 to 27 just to see if there was any gain to be had and i achieved my , i rung the nuts off my car trying to get a 13 but after 13 attempts i give up,

there was a very strong head wind and it was sunny which caught us out with the sun burn lol (ouch). was very surprised my TMIC was nt holding the back more than it was i was only .4 sec behind the quickest pulsar there, and they all had front mounts fitted, I just pipped you for 2nd place out the pulsar's skiddusmarkus lol,

my best run was

reaction .6671
1/8et 82.44
1/4et 13.2327
1/4mph 101.36,

i was affectivly run 1bar boost as i tried to turn it up to 1.2-1.3 but you really need it set up properly through the gears.

earlier in the day i had a couple foul runs as the wind was setting off the timing gear so it looked like you were doing a 5sec 1/4 lol,

I couldn't be arsed messing with tyre pressures as it wasn't launching I had problems with.Ah well, will just have to go later in the year when running properly and I might even stay for a full day then :p.On the plus side I used less fuel driving 60 miles home than I did doing half a dozen runs :p.
Johnsy, I forgot to have a look at how you mounted your seats as they looked very low compared to others I've seen, got any detailed pics of it.

What 60ft did you get? Were you getting any wheelspin, bar the normal front wheel chirp? I dropped my tyres to about 20psi last time, but I never properly checked it against running fully inflated. I was getting 1.6 60fts though with 6000rpm launches (at Shakespeare), so it didn't hurt it.

No real wheelspin Carl, launches were fine apart from one bogged start, I tried to line up in the right hand lane so I could get the 0-60 times.Only had 1 go in the left lane and thats where i massively messed up my 1st>2nd chang and was over a second slower to the 1/8 than rest of runs. That got me a 2.29 sec 60 foot.I normally get 1.8s or so.I know how to launch it but doubt i'll ever see your 1.6s with 1200kg of car.
I wasn't launching at 6k rpm, just blipping with the car on biting point as I didn't want any broken bits stopping me getting home under my own steam. My shit times were just down to lack of power from low boost-think it made around 260bhp on Surrey RR when running on wastegate boost at 0.65 bar which would tally with the times I got.

on that particular run i dont know as i was in the right hand lane, but from the other time sheets i was getting 1.8's

Johnsy doesn't really need any advice as he already got some from the resident GTiR guru at York.It was very gracefully received too :p.

That sounds like murtys car. Mine was standard in the engine box and turbo department but with abit more boost and running 12.0s (allbeit with alot of weight removed) I only managed 13.0s with 246bhp.

He can talk some shit that kid, acting the big i am and all that, telling us our cars are a second off the pace, and telling us his standard car pulls 12.1........it was nt till i told him he was full of shite, and asked if he has a gas kit fitted that he come clean,

Karl whats your spec?

i know you have an rb box , but what sort of weight have you reduced the car down too?

im by no means into this drag racing malarky,i prefer a few corners it makes it a bit more interesting, but i had a good day, 3 years ago i went to york for the first time,it was snowing and we had to wait till 1pm before the strip was clear , my car was standard bar a filter and goose exhaust,it came with a rr print out showing 278bhp @ just under 1 bar, my 2 best times were

run1 run2
reaction .745 .985

60ft .608? 2.079

1/8 et 9.80 9.084

1/8mph 75.47 76.26

1/4 et 14.299 14.249

so i can see that the modifying iv carried out on the car over the past 12 month has gained me 1second over 1/4 mile, my car weighs in at 1300kg with driver and 30 quids worth of fuel and i have still have the tmic albeit a ARC item, i still have 90% of my interior as iv only removed the back seats, and i have no plans to remove any more as i dont want a tin shell of a car,

I dont think the times are to bad,and the 60ft's sound good.

I think a lot about getting a good time is to have no mechanical sympathy, and be an absolute animal with the gearchanges

My best time is a 12.3@112 with a 1.9 60ft and 15psi in the front tyres, but the gearbox ended up brecking a syncro hub in the end:doh::roll:

Was running around as 1.4bar spike of boost then dropping to 1.2-1bar then tailing off to 0.7 in the high revs (think it an actulator problem) car is an rb with ra gearbox with a forged engine but turbo, cams, ecu, injectors etc are still standard but it has a load of bolt on bits.

Its had bucket seats and the rear seats stripped and air con, but has a cage, swirl pot and fire extinguisher in the boot so am unsure on weight.

And with 295bhp-285ft/lbs on a 1.1 bar spike dropping to 1bar then to 0.7 again, the best it run then was a 12.8@109 i think.

My car weighs about 1060kg stripped for drag racing, 1130ish with me in it. It was a standard turbo (new turbo on now, but needs remapping to suit) standard engine, standard box (RB box as it's an RB car) front mount, apexi induction, mongoose, 16" TE37s 215/35/16 tyres, lightweight flywheel, lightweight panels, rps max street clutch, and about 300bhp courtesy of a dawes device. boost was 16psi at 6000rpm and 14psi at 7200rpm which is where spent my time on the drag strip.
Your 14.2s were slow to be honest. For 278bhp you should be hitting high 12s. 2sec 60ft is where you've lost most of it, but your times were slower than a standard car should have been, suggesting you probably didn't have the 278bhp you'd been sold. I wonder if I was there that day as I was there when they had dodgy 60ft timing gear in the left lane.
