The only thing I've seen suggested before was that the clutch pedal may have been adjusted too much and forcing the release bearing too far into the clutch and causing damage to the fingers.
It does sound like an over adjustment to be honest which would result in heat spots as effectively the clutch is always engaged hence the car trying to pull away even with the clutch pedal disengaged.

Its like having your brakes pressed whilst you drive, they soon heat up and fade / warp / expand etc. You should also be able to see the fingers bent to far couple that with the heat build up and you start to destroy the clutch pretty sharpish.

The problem with buying clutch's is that it is a product which can fail due to either bad fitment or driver misuse, and so you usually find even with the parts insurance cover you can buy from the likes of AA and RAC they wont cover a clutch once its fitted and used:cry:

that would be nigh on impossible to do ant unless it was so far adjusted down, then the clutch would slip as it would be partially disengaged!
if it was under adjusted, then the car would not go into gear as plate would not disengage properly from flywheel, this would not burn the plate just bugger your box up as you would have to force it into gear ie, would be the same as driving with no clutch!

I thought about over adjustment when started getting the problems and the clutch was adjusted a few times to try and solve this. But it never worked.
