Cleaning the throttle body chambers...

What's best way to clean the inside of the throttle body chambers while they're off the car? Mine seem to be quite mucky, I had a go cleaning the butterflies but they were awkward to get to. How about soaking them in petrol?

Cant see how that will do any harm as i have done it a few times, although the throttle body off a zetec engine i had did have a sticker on it saying that the butterfly mechanism must not be touched/cleaned with any chemical substances :?

best bet is carb cleaner or petrol i reckon, jeff.

You should be ok cleaning the throttle bodies with petrol/degreaser/carb cleaner.

Ford throttle bodies have a special coating on them hence you cant clean them with anything, as far as i know no other cars are like this

doing this at the mo whatever you do don,t use your grinding/or sandpaper between the throttle and seat! they are bitch to get out and screws are really tight but can be done easily. or polishing outside is going to drive you nuts  ( it has me stumped) i forsee long nights ahead
