Phil (Bracpan) fibreglass bonnet question

For me the other issue is the distance beween the radiator and the block/exhaust manifold. In an ideal world the scoop would draw the warm air from the radiator/intercooler out of the engine bay before it reaches the turbo. Unfortunately in our engine bays there is not enough room for this. So as result the scoop ends up drawing air over the manifold/turbo, effectively cooling them and reducing the energy in the exhaust gas; increasing lag and decreasing power. Lagging/coating of teh turbine housing and manifold can help to some extent but the turbo and manifold also interupt the air flow out of the engine bay. This is where MR/RWD owners seem to have it much easier.

I made this up from fibre glass, chicken wire and some domestic ducting, forces the air drawn into it right over my air filter instead of the manifold.

Outline of the bonnet has to stay the same, I get away with a smooth scoop as the side view is unaltered. I then have run it either blocked or I now feed air over to the air filter. (simular to the idea above) I also run my small vents with a lot more flow than the standard ones.
Den who runs in Mod Prod runs a normal sunny flat bonnet that I made as his rules alow this....to be honest we are getting off the point which is they are not going to blow open if you have it held by 2 bonnet pins...Simples.

Thats something i'm looking at doing. At the moment my air filter is boxed off and fed from the inner wing but feeding it from the bonnet vent would give it maximum cool air.

They sure do, mine might look crap and not a patch on stuff people like Phil can make, but it works brilliantly and the filter is actually cold when you pop the bonnet after a run and feel it.Other peoples get really hot.

My cus has a custom grp bonnet, flaps a bit as well on the motorway at speeds of only 80mph +, got to 130mph once and backed off. The thought of it pulling up and smashing into the windscreen is scarey.

As you can see it has vents cut at front and rear.

Another option.

Phil does yous go into a cold air box or just onto the filter?I used to have it feeding a box but no room for it now so cardboard is filling in for now until I cba to make a better job of it.

I have made a surround that patitions off the filter ( its not a complete box) and the pipe then exits on top of the filter, I belive it works as the filter get dirty right under the vent..

Yes that should be no problem with the regs, its a great idea, but try sending for one and getting the cost of postage?
