i have tried cleaning the pins on the maf but i've not had a good look at the plug, although it does seem a bit loose, it pulls off with not much effort

Tony has anyone come out to see your car or sat in it to see what the problems are?

I'm only up the road from Fleetwood; I'm away this week on business (don't i sound posh) but back home for the weekend (23rd), if you want someone to have a quick look at it?

from what andy has told me today on the phone it does sound like the controller isnt fitted correctly, but as i said to him, solve one prob at a time and the fist ones the i/c if it has a leak in it;-)

i do want a front mount but i'm a bit short of cash at the moment and i don't know anywhere that'd fit it for me. i'm definately interested in a replacement top mount for now and i need a good boost gauge too(60 mm)

Odd that, even when I adjusted the idle control valve it made no difference whether it was screwed full in or out?

Is your boost controller still installed?

it could be one of a few things
1. throttle bodies are out of sync
2. air leak on vacuum pipe or inlet manifold
3.cold start device not cutting off when it should
4. idle speed control valve n/w
5. pcv valve leaking

id take a wild guess that you have a vacuum leak somewhere on one of your small vacuum pipes or caps.
pinch together the pipe that goes from rocker cover to inlet plenum and see if that slows engine down.
likewise if you remove the oil filler cap with engine running do the revs increase???
