4WD chews a fair bit of power. When i visited santa pod for the first time it was the wee novas and mk2 astras with the xe's and let's that surprised me big time. I had more than my fair share of the vauxhalls and never thought they were that quick when driving them, but they kicked ass at the pod. No corners there though

some people fail to realise how heavy the r is compared to a nova off the line u should eat it but say on the motorway dont be so certain of yourself
power is nothing without control............... nova fwd.....no traction  :? and they tend to snake up the run when boosted too    lots of but no way mild tuned R beater
Very true. I noticed that when i hit a 100mph+, i would have next to no steering - scary. Deffo needed more weight added.

someone pickd up on a very good point i forgot about transmission losses my car is 194bhp @ the wheels.

so lets dot he maths again;-)

My gtir 194bhp atw - 1.3 ton = 149 bhp per ton atw
His nova 144bhp atw - .9 ton = 160bhp per ton atw

And there you have it after both cars take into acount there power, weight and transmission losses the nova actualy has an extra 11 horses more power once rolling.

So theoreticly if we were on motorway he could actualy pull on me how is it you dial in more boost on these ebc,s;-)

what is the exact weight of pulsar gtir mine has air con but no sunroof if anyone knows the weight of a nova xe please feel free to add that too;-)

how about you put down the calculator, phone the punk up and tell em to put a hundred quid on it and go meet him now, all this maths is giving me a sore head.

Do some more maths. Your 194bhp at the wheels will let you do a higher top speed than his 144bhp at the wheels, so as you get nearer your top speed, you'll be able to out accelerate him as he struggles to reach his top speed and you continue on to reach yours.

I weighed my Gtir when I first got it and it was 1240kg with aircon. I took the aircon off and it weighed 23kg, so that makes my Gtir 1217kg standard without aircon, but with other weight reduction my Gtir actually weighs 1160ish kg normally and 1135ish kg on the strip. :D

my first so called performance car was a subaru L series turbo coupe i raced a astra 16v gte (if you are from the north east it was from ponteland to morpeth) the valves were sticking i had no pads left and slightly warped discs but still kept in front no problem at all. the gtir would piss all over the subaru so id say the nova would be no problem

i must say small cars with good power are shockingly fast i had a mk2 xr2 with a 1907cc american tall block cvh with twin 40s built by specialized engines with 190bhp and lots of talk too and i beat a mr2 turbo comfortably on a straight in the dry but round corners and in the wet it was a deff trap, it certanly feels faster than my pulsar with 14 psi boost but i would say its pretty much even once rolling i know which car id preffer to be in (P) feels alot safer and good in wet to.

Agreed, once moving on the motorway the R is at the disadvantage, they are less aerodynamic, more transmission loss and if you have still got your limiter you will left very red faced!

Had a race with one in my 265 bhp R, he was around 180bhp, killed him off the roundabout up the slip road, but due to me having to slow down to traffic(on my private racetrack, the cheek) every time I accelerated from around 70 up to flat out he would be with me all the way!

id say my pulsar feels as quick as my little 1.1 fiesta wait for it... that i stuck a escort rst engine into that was cammd set up for 18psi of boost with fmi and few other bits but and this is big but when you plant your foot in 1st and 2nd in pulsar you just take off xr2 turbo you wheelspin;-)

if he has high lift cams and throttle bodies and an f16 gearbox he will be around 220bhp and be good for about 150mph but it will take him to about 3rd to get the power down.

so you've got torque but only to 4.5k rpm, the std turbo (which is ****) has only come on boost 1k rpm before...

you'll have the intial surge but power is power, so you shouldn't be working out torque comparisons, you want bhp per tonne...

if you're gay enough to race someone in the first place i'd advise you to do it in a controlled environment, you don't want to live your life 1/4 mile at a time constantly...

or just don't be such a ****ing chav and brag about your 14.7psi Pulsar to everyone, like the cocks around here!

i should have read above...

Ok a Nova has more power than you per tonne, i bet you're annoyed...

...you should see the power a 1.4l 8valve can make...
