What to do!!!!

My GTIR has been off the road for nearly 2 years......Its my second one and I have always thought it wasn't as good as my first....it was making strange clunking noises and the engine was so so. It also has a Phoenix power rear spoiler which really needs to be taken off.....so......what would you do? I am torn between

a) Getting it running and selling it for not much...then trying to find something equally as fun.

or

b) Throwing loads at it and making it a great car...

Aaagghhh

If I go with the 2nd option there is also the stress of finding a decent garage.....

Welcome to the club mate.

It all depends if the shell is worth getting it running again. it all depends how big is your pocket.

instead of finding a garage to do the work just get stuck in yourself.
That'd be my suggestion too - make a project out of it; you'll learn something along the way, and it will make it all so much sweeter to know that the results are all your own work.

imo trying to find something as fun was hard, evo 4 and 6, escort cosworth, r33 gtr and none of them in my view make me as happy as a GTiR. As mentioned before as long as the shell is okay i'd try and sort it out.

Thanks for your replies!

Guess I should just get it fired up and have a good look at it....I know the handling needs looked at, the brakes upgraded, the engine/fuelling etc set up correctly, the spoiler removed, new alloys and tyres, the windscreen is cracked......but apart from that its ok lol. Before it went of the road, I did get a front mount fitted, blitz boost controller, uprated fuel pump etc.

I had an evo VI Tommy mak and to be honest I always liked my first GTIR better.....So maybe I should just throw money at it....

The Phoenix power spoiler is an adjustable wing with a 2nd lower spoiler below the rear window. Sometimes I like it because its different but other times it reminds me of a shopping trolley! :yuck:

If you don't want to spend money you can always clean it up then sell it as a rolling shell project to someone else... you won't get your money back; that's the main problem with doing it that way.

Yes thats an option....

It is red......was kind of green with tree sap but its red again now lol
Dicksons of dunblane had one in about 5 years ago, had one of those spoilers on it! I'm sure they wanted crazy money for it at the time. You should post up a pic of the rear end 8)

lol it is the Dicksons of Dunblane one! I stupidly bought it as was after a red one....big mistake, was ok when I test drove it but when I picked it up, half way home it started missing. I didn't worry that much as just thought they hadn't checked the plugs but it turned out the engine was buggered. They did eventually arrange for a new (welll they say it was new) engine to be fitted but its been abit of a dog. I have done bits to it and I have a standard spoiler to put on. I put it of the road when it started making strange clunking noises on lock and handling funny. But now I have some cash and its as I said.....do it all up or flog it. I will try to post a pic of my rear lol

Definitely fix her up mate - there's nothing like getting behind the wheel of your R after a long period of time! But for the love of all that's good and decent, please destroy that spoiler.
