were nt the Nismo shells alot stronger? seam welded?
Nope, that would be a homogolated rally car (such as the NME shells, or a non-team entry like the one Boby bought from Europe).
Yep but VIN's are unchangable and hence to me have all the value. This is why there is a substantial difference in price between between a pukka mk2 'scort mexico or RS2000 and a 1.2 with stuck on bits.
I appreciate that the Nismo VIN is worth a lot in sentimental value; if it still had all the Nismo parts I'd probably be excited about it. - I suppose I'm just lamenting the number of "special" versions that have been buggered about with so much that they aren't special any more.
To use your analogy, is the mk2 escort worth as much if someone has decided to shoe-horn a V8 from a mustang (or worse; a chevy block) in it and ditched the original running gear to achieve it? - I'd say no (although I have exagerated a bit).
I feel the same way when I see something like a wintergreen R with the interior all stipped-out. It's a shame it doesn't still have the original features, and I think it's worth less (than one that does) because of that.
