In my first real year or drag racing my GTiR I pretty much cleared up I was the first Japanese car to win sportsman ET I was 2nd in JDM-DRC overall highest point scorer (the first non American car to get that trophy) I had a target on my back. See http://www.gtiroc.com/index.php?threads/drag-racing-my-gtir-long-story.88306/#post-522478
Without going in to too much detail I missed the first 3 rounds of JDM-DRC and 2 rounds of sportsman ET.
It was a case of having 1 issue but finding the cause and the solution of the issue, and every time you think you found, it because you fixed problem it turns out it wasn’t that. The shopping list was in the end was.
Gearbox rebuild with custom selector fork.
Turbo repair
New actuator
Re pipe vac pipes
Replace inlet manifold gasket
New fuel pressure regulator with gauge
Several packs of spark plugs
HT Leads
And finally we (me and the car) were ready to take race.
And before I continue a quick recap on how the races are run. In both classes are what is called bracket racing which in short means you put the time you are going to run on the side of your car, if you go faster than that time its called a breakout and you will lose unless your opponent breakout by more. It means that no matter how fast or slow you are you will always have an equal chance of winning.
We come in at JDM-DRC round 4, the car running effortlessly the next rounds of racing come up the car is significantly better so I run with a lower dial-in and again its 7 cars have qualified I after a string of brilliant reactions I’m in the final where my opponent red lights giving me the win it appears I didn’t notice as I ran a .5 react and 12.72 on a 12.7 dial-in virtually unbeatable.
JDM-DRC round 5
Then with some tactical driving I get myself in to the final again this time I’m up against the champ and I totally fluff it I was late on the lights as I had red lit in sportsman earlier and I was just really slow however luck was on my side as my opponent broke out (went to quick) and gifted me the win. Back to back wins
Sportsman ET round 3
17 cars qualified where I managed to make it to the semi final and red lit gifting the win to my opponent.
JDM-DRC round 6
Only 3 cars entered which means 2 things more likely to take a win but less chance to earn any points
That is 3 out of 3 for me in JDM that puts me in 2nd place.
Sportsman ET round 4 again I reach the semi final
The following day was RWYB so I went out on the track to see what the car was capable and thrashed it, and got a new PB of 12.5 @ 108mph so with all that work at the beginning I had found 2 tenths.
Before I can turn the Nos back on I needed to fit a roll cage. (anything faster than 11.99 must have a roll bar loop minimum)
And then it went to shit!
JDM-DRC round 7 A first round exit a huge red-light
Sportsman round 5 and JDM-DRC round 8 rained off
So now sporting a roll cage and with the Nos filled and ready to go it was time to see what the car can do and finally after years of trying I got in to the 11s and ran an 11.87
On to the final rounds and with no chance of winning I just faff JDM-DRC I was asleep on the line and gave the win to my opponent.
in sportsman ET I decide to run with the nitrous on and just dick about and only ended up in the final!!! However my Nos were low and I didn’t compensate enough on my dial in and ran 12.4 on a 12.2 dial in giving the win to my opponent.
All in all I finished 3 in JDM-DRC 11 in sportsman which I don’t think is to bad considering I missed a large proportion of the season and I left with 2 new bests one with Nos and one without, and more importantly the car once sorted has held together and taken the abuse I give it. There is a blow on the exhaust gasket which stopped me from improving on 11.8 and the clutch need replacing.
My stats from different sheets are
1.6 60ft
3.6 0-60
11.87 ¼ at 118mph
http://www.yorkdragway.org/results.pl?date=2015-09-19;car=JDM4
Car stats are full trim
Standard gearbox
1.2 bar of boost
Standard injectors
Standard turbo
Standard ECU
Stealth FMIC
Forged engine
80 shot of WON nitrous kit
who knows what 2016 brings i know it isnt going to start well as i need a new head gasket.
