Holographic metal flake

Has anyone used this or seen a car with it on..got some for my car but need to know how much of the base colour shows thru as its going over orange and I dont want to lose the orange...was maybe gonna put it in certain places??

Haven't seen it in the metal yet, but it was on a magazine cover car Saxo (either Max poo or Fart Car) and according to the article it needed 10 coats of lacquer to get a proper smooth finish![:O]

We're gonna let it dry and then flat it down and apply a final coat over the whole lot...should be very smoothe then

The cover car on lax flower has it this month i think.

I dont drive it i just hang on and hope for the best!

Just finished masking it up, gonna start painting it tomorrow[:D][:D]

Still havent decided on what to do with the metal flake tho....got some holographic and orange metal flake, my mate whos painting it is stuk in the 80's and reckons I should do a thunderbolt down the side[:0]

hi guys, have just used the holo matal flake this week on a motorbike, if you put 30gramms of flake into half a litre of activated laquer, with no thinner then you will find that 3-4 medium to full coats is enough to give a full finish but not cover your base colour. what i mean is that it wont be a s**t effect you will probably have around 20-30 flakes per square cm. I used a DeVilbiss gti gun running a 1.6mm setup and the needle wound 3/4 out this is why i say medium to full coats. dont forget that you dont need a finish on this application. also dont put thinners in because the flake is heavy and sinks like the titanic. KEEP SHAKING THE GUN!!!!! let it then dry and flat with 800 then 2000 this as you will know now lets you laquer it again with no flatting sctratches you should also only need 2 good coats if flatted well. your finish should look about 50 foot deep, the bike i did does.

What size flake did you use?? The flake ive got is the smallest one they do so hoipefully should be able to bury it with the lacquer, if not itll need flatting and relacquering.
Im only putting on a very very light coat of flakes..we done some test panels and under normal light you cant actually see the flake unless you look really close, but even then it just looks like a coarse metallic..but when the light hits it[:D][:D][:D][:D]Plus ive gone to great lengths to create a really nice orange/yellow flip and i dont want to lose that colour under the flake.

hi pal the flake is the finest they do that i used, it looks silver in normal state until the light hits it. but i strongly advise re laquering for two raesons 1 deep effect. 2 you have no chance of any probs when you spend time doing a propper flet and polish.

Thank mate, as I say we are only applying a very fine coat. The car is 2 tone anyway so we're prob gonna lacquer the whole lot when finished if it needs it

Not yet, still gotta paint the skirts and the cage and flat and polish it.. Gonna be reinstalling my computer over the weekend so prob post some when its all done, gonna take me a few days to put it all together.

PS. the GBH skyline in this months Lax power looks incredible in the flesh, the pics don't do it justice. It rocks!!!!

I keep meaning to go and see the GBH Skyline as I only live down the road. Mine hasnt got as much flake in it as that tho...just enuf to make it sparkle[:D][:D][:D]

The bloke painting it had a bit of a disater with runs on the mouldings so he had to paint a bit again...but cant complain as hes painting it for free[:D]
