Help with Chain Tensioner

Hello

I have purchased a new cam chain tensioner from Nissan and was hoping i could get some advice on fitting it.

Firstly, when i remove the old one, can the chain slacken enough to skip teeth on the cogs (?), or can i just whip it out no problem?

Secondly, someone told me i may need to load it up, ie compress the spring and the once fitted release it. Is this the case with 'R?

Any help appreciated.

there should be a little hook on the tensioner u will need to hook the sprung part onto this (theres a little bit sticking out to hook it round)
to compress it u need to push the little lug in underneath the tensioner aswell then it will go all the way back once uve put it in u can release the hook all done

When my new adjustable pullies were being fitted with the chain slackened it slipped over a couple of teeth so keep an eye on it.

edited to make it a bit clearer what I meant.
