how do i take the standard gear knob off?

how do mean? the gear knob itself screws off or they are screws to unscrew? it doesnt seem to budge when i try to twist the gear knob off.

You just twist the gear knob, in an anti-clockwise direction and it will un-screw.

Of course, it might be on tight or a previous owner might have glued it on, for whatever reason !
