what are the plug gaps meant to be

Run them at about 0.7 - 0.65

would that gap be the same for the ngk iridium 8's?

That gap will definately work on your NGK's, but you really want as big a gap as possible without the car misfiring. My iridiums are on about 0.8mm and they're fine.
