engine making loud noise

drop the oil on it as previously said! this will then confirm whether its the ends and possibly main bearings too!
i personally dont think it sounds like a small end knock or shims in the slightest, far too heavy for that even though it is a vid (sounds more like a tractor lol)
i reckon youll have loads of bits of metal come out with the oil which will confirm a knackered bottom end

got to agree with pulsarbobby on this one, like i said not had olot of experience on the shimming side of things, but that noise is definately bottom end. id take it back to garage especially if it was ok before it went in. was it like that as soon as you started it up when you picked the car up?

lol ok i will take the oil out and check it so if it does have metal in the oil that means bottom end gone and if it does not have metal in it that means its the top end yhh?? i will check the oil and get back to you by 2moz.

just out of curiosity does the noise get better when the clutch is dipped to the floor?

lol thats good then but have you got any idea what else it could be?? to be honest im not to sure as you cant hair the noise from inside the car but i dont think puting the clucth down makes it batter it only goes batter when the car is being driven or when you just rev it soon as it reaches about 3-4 revs the noise goes away only when the car is standing still with no revs its sound like that?? any idea what it could be??

im stumped now tbh as i would have gambled money on that being a bigend knock!

the only other thing i can think of is that you have excess play in timing chain or badly worn camshaft or valve clearances being miles out but the latter wont dissapear when engines revved above 3-4rpm
so would probably go for a defective timing chain tensioner or stretched chain!

your best bet is to take it to someone who knows what theyre doing, maybe a performance specialist who deals with pulsars, but most decent mechanics will be able to tell whats wrong and fix it. its too hard to tell from the video and we could be guessing all day

so it would be best if i get the head open and get the chain checked out ?? but what i would like to know is that if that was the big end knocking on my GTIR would the car still drive normal?? the reason i say that is because my mates subaru impreza big end was gone it was knowing but the car did not drive the same(no power from the engine) and there was planty of black smoke from the exhaust. mine is not iether of those. so would the pulsar still drive good whih the bottom end knocking??? and pulsarboby thanks a lot for all you help mate.

it depends on how bad it was knocking.
but as gtirpimp suggested if i were you i would take it somewhere local (thats not gonna bullshit you) and ask them to try and diagnose the knock, as he said 'its sometimes hard to try and diagnose by vid' in reality it may not sound as bad as that!
if you had been local then we would have had a look for you but your miles away, is there no pulsar owners up your neck of the woods (with good mechanical knowledge) where you can take it to get a second opinion on it?

his names richard there is one guy i know that used him before and said that he done a good job on his car and he was the only one who was wiling to work on my pulsar as most garges would not take my car as it being a sports car. i think he knws about these jap cars but he aint the best. hes spose to have worked on 100z of evos, scoobyz, pulsars and skylines so for that reason i trusted him to work on my pulsar.

I still think it sounds like big ends. Could be wrong though but, When mine went i couldn't find any metal in the oil, although it didn't sound as bad as your's, but the shells were in bits when we removed them.
Can't you get under the car with it running and listen into the sump area might give you a better idea of where the noise is coming from.

Are you talking about Richard from rjtuning? I can vouch for his work and he ain't like the majority of so called tuners Aka cowboys. I remember he had a blue rb gtir their when I was getting some welding. Recently I also saw a yellow gtir with a black bonnet being towed there:doh: just my 5 p's worth...
