ecu location

This might make me sound stupid, but where is the ecu mounted in our cars?? I think its somewere behind the dash but I cant see anything under there.
I bought the car from a garage and the salesman didnt have a clue what the full spec was. So im gonna hav a look to see if its ever been chipped.

the ecu is in the middle of the dash in the centre part near were your feet are.if u open it up there should b one circuit board in the ecu if there is another one around half the size with a few chips on that means its gonna have some kinda chip or delimiter on it
