Clear Coats?

Paint dudes,

Does the OE paint have a clear coat, I’m thinking not?

So do you lacquer parts you spray (like bumpers / side skirts)?

If you re-spray actual parts of the car panels to match OE, do you just use the gloss of the paint system / wet sand and buffing or is their a clear coat of some sort?

Got some bits to paint, not sure what finish I need to get.

Cheers, toby

Out of interest is the original paint (on the panels) just a normal gloss 2-pac or whatever it is to get the shinyness?

The way to tell is to use some T-Cut on the paint work, if it pulls off some colour then it just paint, if T-Cut stays clear then it's base coat and prolly a 2 pack acrilic clearcoat.

I think the cars were originally just celulose though (no clearcoat)

I'm pretty sure at least the winter green has a clear coat as I saw the bonnet on one peeling badly.

my own is black and is lacquered as the front wing is peeling.
Must have had a respray at some stag then as the non metalic colours were definately originally not laquered.

would tend to agree with you steve as theres no rust anyware on the paint work . though it could be the nippon version of superguard had that on a few cars and thats like a clear laquer.
