Checking my timing

Hi all

I went to check my timing the other day and found that when disconnecting the tps the idle would stay high and the timing marks were very far forward. I then followed the same procedure on Rob's pulsar and the idle stayed the same as normal so I was doing the procedure right. The car drives and runs well so am reluctant to go moving the dizzy and the dizzy looks to be roughly in the right position.

any ideas or anyone seen anything like this.

thanks muppet.

You could always put some witness marks on the dizzy so if you do move it, you can put it back exactly where it was before.

with the TPS disconnected - adjust the idle down with the Idle Adjust screw.

When the TPS is plugged in the ecu will be compensating and lowering the idle.

Either that or you have an air leak somewhere - but I'd expect that to show up even with the TPS attached.

I wouldn't adjust the timing if it's idling high with the TPS unplugged and the retardation has kicked in - you could seriously get it wrong.

Sort out the first problem first then do ur adjustment.

Just my two P worth!

Thanks for the advice but I think that my idle screw is wound all the way in. I need to double check but I am sure when I had a ecu fault and stripped it partly down that it was wound all th way in.

Is there a procedure for setting the idle.

thanks muppet.
