hey tubby! you can either disconnet it and block the feul vapour pipe from the tank.personally i,d leave it on because it will create pressure in feul tank due the vapour not being used it the engine and it is illegal to vent them to atmosphere.

Charcoal canister is basicly a filter on the vent from the fuel tank, to stop fuel vapour leaving the tank directly into the atmosphere.

Under the right conditions the vapour is released into the inlet of the engine rather than the atmosphere.

Older cars didnt have it, they just had a vent pipe from the tank. My old nova used to vent it up near the filler neck of the tank. The new one has the canister behind the front bumper

I suppose its because the polution laws were/are so strict over in Japan and they weren't so strict in the UK, so they didnt bother!

incidentally, my old 1.4 sunny was an Irish/UK spec (not and import) and that was fitted with a charcoal canister :?
