I've been offered some quite cheap, just wondered what people thought!

Are they fully adjustable?

Also - will the ride be really really hard?

Alright there Nickg123 and thanks for the exhaust again

Still have not got it fitted

I have Tein coilovers on my car and I must say that they can be very hard on nasty pot holed Birmingham roads but once you get on a nice piece of tarmac or even a Track  they are perfect so if you rarely get onto a track or do a lot of motorway driving you may aswell forget them or if you are building a track day beast  then they will be fine for you :D

I love my coilovers on Saturday nights at the local cruise 8) because they are wicked around roundabouts but I hate them during the week as I bounce & bash around :x 8)

It really depends on how you use your car :)

TBH m8, i reckon they will be VV hard, and unless its a weekend/trackday car i wouldnt bother
(should just say, i aint got/never had coilovers, but from very limited experience/what ive read they will be really hard)

er, just remembered, the first GTI-r i bought had HKS coilovers, and it was very hard, but not too bad a ride, so i guess it depends on the make etc

Get 'em! If they dont knock the fillings out of your teeth they aren't hard enought. Throw your creature habits out the window, your not driving a station wagon.

Yeah but when it's really hard you feel like your shaking the car to pieces - it doesn't exactly feel good for it!

Depends what roads u r driving on. This has come up a few times before. Track day yes. Country roads only if u can get a soft enough spring rate and that the dampening can be adjusted off alot. Some dampners wont let u turn the dampening down enough so even with soft springs it will still feel hard.

Find a R with suspension feel how u like it, drive it down ur favourite roads. Then find out the weight of the springs, then get the equivalent spring for ur car in what ever size coilovers u want ( I take it u mean 2.25") and hopefully be able to wind the dampening off enough.

P.S. Unfortunaly my dampners are fixed rate but never driven on them enough to know if they r too hard for country roads.

omg suspension lesson needed

right people i need to explain suspension to u.
first off u have fixed rate sports suspension which is basically a stiff shock and springs with no adjustment possible.
coil overs are a stiff shock and stiff springs but u can adjust coilovers on preload, i.e the height the car sits
compression, i.e how much you felt of that last bump you just went over.
rebound,i.e how your car reacts when it hits the bump.
for those really wishin to push the limit u can get coilovers with separte oil cooler!!

when you buy coil overs a specialist should fit and set them up. they should ask you what type of driving you do and set the car up for it with a reasonable ride unless its a track only R. they should also perform corner weighting an set camber , toe -in, toe- out, kpi kastor and the rest.
if ur not happy take it back an make them adjust it. i say this because they should set it up to ur satisfaction and that coilovers have to be adjusted equally and there is a shit load of settings. example 10 preload settings, 10 compression settings , 10 rebound settings gives u a possible 1000 different settings on each shock. get it wrong and u will fuck up ur handling so get the experts to do it till ur happy .

wheels also make a difference!!!

i have 17s on my R on standard suspension an u do feel those potholes when ya hit em( like playin space invaders horizontally)
if with the fitment of coilovers the ride is still hard and cant be adjusted out reasonably by coil over adjustment it might be worth goin 16's on a 45 profile or 15's on a 50 for more tyre cushoning but this then limits the size of the brakes u can go.

coilovers with separte oil cooler are about £2k per corner matey thats what rally drivers use.Ive driven in a sunny with arigostos some crazy jap coilover. The arigostos are way too hard not good apart from smooth tarmac.I have gabs on now they are not height adjastable but can adjust dampness mines set to 4 and nice and smooth better than being bumpy and car banging like crazy over a small speedbump
