Another Non Starting Q!!!!!

OK OK OK!!!

After a year of my car being sat idle, i started it up for the first time, and now it doesnt want to

The car wants to run, its cranking over, but it will not catch

before you say SEARCH  i already have

Heres the facts

Fuel pump is working, operated by switch in dash

Fault code comes up fine

there is fuel getting to the spray bar/injectors

there is a spark on all 4 plugs

timing has not been touched

Battery is brand new and fine

i have checked all earths, and regrounded if needed

an apexi safc is fitted, and not yet set up. although bought this second hand, and i knew it was working before hand. Does the safc hold its memory???

Maybe injectors blocked with sediment from the bottom of the fuel tank??

where is the crank position sensor? possibly disconnected??

Any other ideas?????

Cheers

try new fuel - it degrades after a while and evaporates all the good stuff away :D I've had that problem on two cars now that have been off the road for over a year, just needed fresh fuel and they started ok.

I dont want to insult your intelligence, but you haven't taken the leads off and put them back on wrong ? :D Sorry, but it does happen... :(

Are the spark plugs getting wet when you turn it over ? strong smell of fuel from the exhaust ?

HEHE!!

I knew someone would ask that!! yea, i swapped the leads over, one by one might i add, they are on correct, plugs are dry, and are all getting a spark.

k, well f00k off and fix the bl**dy thing yourself then, what you doing asking for help ? :D <joke>

The plugs should be wet when you take them out, or its not getting any fuel... :D

The only other thing is timing, its a pretty big long shot but it might be worth looking at the crank pulley mark and dizzy to see how their lined up, or take the rocker off and time it that way. Should get it rough enough to start... :?:

P i ss easy fix this one mate. The valves arent seated I would say, do a compression test or if you want to start it just tow it and then let clutch out and it should fire up in one, you need to go some speed.

The valve seats will have some sort of s h i t e on them.

thats what makes me think injectors are clogged, but surely not all of them? its just at the back of my mind that the safc is something to do with the injectors not opening, what else could cause the problem. i suppose i should check to see if the injectors are getting power to them!

i will try tow starting tomorrow, but ill be sitting on a milk crate

cheers for advice, i will let you know how i get on tomorrow

get a spare injector off someone, plug it into the harness in place of one of the fitted ones, crank it over and see you can hear it switching. That should rule out the SAFC...

sounds like a silly one but fit a timing light to each of the leads and examing the flahing of the light. mine had same problem as yours and found there was a spark and it all looked good but it was arcing onto bottom of the intercooler. It the spark is intermitent do the obvious and service the ignition.

The crank angle sensor is inside the dizzy.
Eccs relays have been know to die, but they tend to kill the spark and fuel (I think)
Is the spark a good one or a weak one. (ignition amplifier faulty)
Have you actually had the plugs out, cleaned them and checked the gap?

Its not just flooded is it? Mine was when it had sat for a couple of months - sorry if I'm telling you what you already know (by the sound of your first post I am ).

If you've not already tried it try turning the engine over and pushing the accelerator right to the floor, leave it turning for a minute or two and hopefully you might hear it just start to catch. If you do, just keep going, eventually it should turn over.

Hope this helps.
