What Brake Fluid???

Can anyone recommend a good brake fluid to use with my Willwoods???
Actually getting my finger out and fitting them,
As they have lay on my work bench since i purchased them off Martin donkeys ago???

Any Help appreciated

ATE super blue, its about £20 a litre and i've yet to boil it on track with my Ap's. The wet boiling point isn't far off Castrol SRF and thats £40 a litre!

Depends how hot the brakes get when you driving them. I have had pedal to the floor through boiling fluid rallying in the 1st couple of events so went the SRF route. No probs since.
Now I am also wondering whether there is a cheaper alternative, as its a consumable (changed yearly: 3 rally cars) Ebay has some guy selling Brembo stuff cheap, Rally design stock the Wilwood stuff.
I would like to be paying £10-20 a litre as I get through a lot, but do not want to lose the brakes through boiling fluid ever again.
Will keep following this thread...

I've been using motul RBF600 for years and never boiled the fluid, but I am not heavy on brakes and my R never sees the track so I can't comment on hard use.

See i dont mind spending the money, in my eyes you get what you pay for.
The willwoods have some blue fluid in them the now, so a assume it could the the ATE Super Blue???

More than likely!

Are they the 280mm kit of 310mm?

Make sure you install some decent pads with them to get the full benefit.

If you are thinking on taking them on track, I would recommend some air ducting to the brakes, just to aid cooling as I found my old Wilwoods would over heat after 5+ laps.

Do you think that was due to the fact they use thinner discs than the standard brakes?

I've never liked the look of them as they don't look like they'd dissipate the heat very well for sustained hard track use.

Wilwoods are fine, for what they cost. I have AP's on my rally pulsar, as its a heavy car. Wilwoods work well on my rally golf. Ducting is important, but not easy to achieve without it getting damaged. Without race type pads I would guess ordinary dot4 or 5 would do. Cant ever imagine boiling the fluid on the road, your license wouldnt last...

The 280mm kit was 24mm thick, the 310mm kit that was a laughable 21mm thick!

I never bothered with the 310mm kit, due to that. For hard track use, no they are not good enough, for fast road and occasional light trackday, they were fine!

I done my first, and only lol track day at brands with carbotech xp10 pads and evo3/clio 172 brakes on the front, and completly stock rears using the willwood exp 100 fluid.

I would stay out for proberly 20+laps and had no issues at all with the fluid,brakes/pedal remained consistant.
The brakes got hot enough for the standard rear pads to start to disintegrate and cause abit of brake judder at speed lol

Just to add,if using this willwood stuff i think it is recommended to change the fluid alot more regulary,as i think the moisture absorption lowers the boiling point abit, and possibly faster than a normal fluid?.

Nice to know, as the wilwood fluid is reasonably cheap. Also had probs with std rear pads overheating and breaking up, on the pulsar and the golf

Fubar Andy, I couldnt honestly say what size they were. Martin offered me them and a bought them lol.
Bought 2 Litres of ATE Super Blue the day so i can flush the system. My local euro car parts stocked them, at £14.99 a litre :).
So will give the ATE Stuff a whirl and see how it goes.
I have the Evo 3/ clio Sport Discs / Pagid Blue pads. and their mega. But brakes are sitting in garage doing nothing so time to fit them instead of being ornaments :)
