little heads up for prospective buyers or anyone thinking of buying a pulsar

on my travels lately and also with phone calls ive had regarding purchasing cars and people that have recently bought cars from various places on the net (that have been taken for a fair amount of money) there seems to be a lot of cars advertised with quaife boxes and forged engines that have nothing of the sort fitted.

i looked at one of these cars yesterday to buy and walked away from it.....it had reciepts, photos and everything else associated with the build but just basically a stock car with big turbo slapped on.

so once again fellas be warned as theres a hell of a lot of mickey mouse reciepts floating about atm so you really need to be switched on or youll end up getting caught for a lot of wedge;-)

That's the good thing about this place, a lot of the work can be verified by such as yourself, red Reading etc.

To be honest I wouldn't believe anything you can't check with your own eyes. - If that means I might walk away from the genuine article, or put the time and money in to doing the work, it's a hit I'll take.

I'm surprised that people still try to pull a fast one on you Boby.

I know what you mean.For example when I had my forged engine built, I had PAR steel rods fitted.No way anyone can see these without dropping the sump and if someone turned up wanting to do that chances are I'd politely say no.Similarly I have Tomei cams, valves, rocker stoppers, HKS cam pulleys fitted but people can't see these so last time I took the cam cover off I took pictures to prove it.I have a PAR gearset, noone can see this but they could check with Danny as he built it(and it now actually works).

On a serious note, this has unfortunatly been going on for decades - you're always gonna get cars like this, its just up to the seller to check - which unfortunatly you just cant sometimes. As said above, who's gonna be willing to take the engine half apart just to prove whats inside, unles its a very very highly priced one - not alot of people.

Its not always fault of the seller, just depends on what theyve been told from when they purchased the car.

Its like the good old saying though... 'you want something doing, do it yourself' - the only way to sell for sure really!

I think that is very true; when I bought mine the vendor told me it had a Nismo clutch, but that's not what we found when it failed and we took it out.
He also told me that a previous owner said he'd fitted a Yamamoto ECU, but there's no sign of that either.

I don't believe he is/was trying to rip me off by telling me porky pies. I think he genuinely believed that's what was in the car he was selling because that's what he was told was in it when he bought it.

well in all fairness to the lad, he bought the car like that with the photos and reciepts plus he never really knew anything about cars at all, hes hardly used the thing and found he could not afford to insure it hence asking me if i wanted to purchase it.
he looked sick as a pig when i told him the bad news about it and i actually felt sorry for him as he had paid a rather large amount of money for the car, when his gf came home the first words out of his mouth to her was 'ive been stitched up big time'

when you buy one of these now thats supposed to be all singing and dancing it pays to bring a bore scope with you and check to see if it does have forgies fitted.

if its got hks cams then they can be seen clearlly through the oil filler cap, they are a distinct grey colour as opposed to being a browny cast colour.

quaife is hard to spot tbh.....only way to really tell without removing anything is to drive the thing as it should have a distinct whine (but some are quieter than others) so even then its difficult.
also you can still be caught out because if the bearings are noisy in a stock box you can easily mistake that noise with being a quaife.

i generally look at the car as a whole and if its all pretty much standard but is advertised as having a quaife fitted then you can bet your bottom dollar that it has not....generally if its a track based car or something with a lot of special bits on it then its highly possible but still not 100% so a bit of a gamble at end of the day.
