getting the foundations right

As most of you know, I'm getting my pulsar ready for its remap at fusion and my Target is 350 / 370 bhp. My engine is running stock internals and stock gearbox but I'd like to make the car as reliable as is reasonably possible. I have the following mods on the car.

13 Row oil cooler
Forge Front mount intercooler
Uprated Hispec brakes 4 pot
Light weight ND Flywheel
Helix Organic Clutch
BC Coilovers
Battery relocated to Boot
All engine issues, leaks etc rectified (not that there was much)
Mongoose exhaust
High flow filter (standard air box)
Walbro fuel pump
Whiteline front and rear top strutbraces

I plan to add the following before upping the boost from stock.

50mm Aluminium Radiator
Yokohama Ad08 Tyres
Manual Dawes boost control (simple)

I would up boost to 1 bar at this point and then,

Upgrade Turbo to Garett GT2871R .64
fit 550cc reconditioned injectors
fit Z32 AFM
Remap @ Fusion.

have I forgotten anything?

silicone hoses  poly bushes, suspension Upgrades.
As there is no point in that power when you dont have the suspension upgrades to support your power.

Forget about the mongoose as I'm assuming it's attached to the standard elbow and get yourself a full 3 inch system built, I've been banging on about this for a while now, but pound for pound it's the best mod I've ever put on my car, and this includes all of the above and more.

check for boost leaks as i had one when i had my car mapped so had to go away to sort this out before i could get good power but ed mght be able to do this for you but then you might loose you slot on the dyno. you can get near 350 from a standard turbo but if you realy want 370 then upgrade it

A 3" built exhaust system is great but if you have a mongoose system, that will work just fine. I have a mongoose on mine and I have no problems with it.

A 3" system from turbo to tip will work better than a mongoose. Over 350hp a 2.5" system starts to constrain the mid range.

Do this first before buying a turbo.

The standard air box is not great either with or wihtout a "high flow" filter

A 3" system is definately better than a Mongoose but if you already have a Mongoose fitted and are looking for 350 - 370bhp, you are spending money you dont need to on minimal gains.

Ive run a Mongoose with a GT2876R, GT3071R and GT3582R and didnt notice any contrains to the mid range.

I assumed the mongoose was 2.5"? If it's 3" then he could leave it but it's still worth changing the elbow. The elbow and front pipe work better at 3" as they give the biggest pressure drop across the turbine. My 3071 with a standard elbow and 2.5" custom system was constraining the mid range. Swapping to a custom 3" turbo to tip system transformed the car. It freed up an extra 10% air flow and brought the turbo on 500rpm sooner to the point that it gave me problems with surge. The whole thing needed re-mapping. Owners running just a T28 have found improvements with a decent front pipe too with improved response and mid range.

Perrin21 lives in the NW so everytime he asks the same question in a different way I give him the same answer. Pipewerx are 10 miles down the road, Ed is 210 miles down the road. I'm helping him on his car this weekend so can have a closer look then.

What elbow and front pipe are you running on your GT3582r?

I can only go on my own results, but the exhaust I fitted made such a difference, perhaps it was just the elbow and dp but regardless these should be changed for a 3 inch system.

4th'ded on the 3" exhaust, had 3" elbow/downpipe into mongoose and it didn't feel quite right.Had rest of system made in 3" and it immediately spooled faster, puilled harder on the same boost. With a new GT3071 on and old exhaust setup it didn't feel much different to when I had my MD214 turbo on, was thinking maybe I'd dropped a bollock swapping over, but once exhaust was done it felt how I thought it should ie 'kin fast.
Mongoose is a really good(but noisy) exhaust, had mine on for ages and was always pleased with it, but the car eventually outgrew it.

Perrin you have an ever growing list of mods you want to do(always on a tight budget you say :p) so try and concentrate on 1 area at a time.Do everything related to the remap in one go and you will only have to pay for one map and the 2-3 tanks of fuel you are going to use on the day getting there and back and dyno time.Start faffing about splitting your money between different areas of the car and you will be going there twice, adding £3-400 onto the price once you factor everything in.

Edited to add, the mongoose is 2.5" camp, and is Mad4it Danny Fennel from back in the day?I thought I saw your name on the other site?

haha yeh budget is everything, I work in a commission based job so sometimes the wage is good, mostly its not but at the moment my pulsar is my main hobby. Spikey has been great, he really knows his stuff and his prices are great. Anyone in the NW should pay him a visit if they are having trouble diagnosing an issue. Saved me so much time and effort. I really appreciate all the help I'm getting here, so much that I'm now a paid up member :) . Thanks everybody, looking forward to meeting up with campbelju at the weekend to check out my settings. Unfortunately as is the way with pulsars, you fix one thing and something else breaks lol.

It's also a slippery slope once you start fiddling with things... there's always something else that needs to be done to make use of the last thing you did. Some new part, some new setting.

I try to resist, but when it's parked-up and not being driven I'm tempted to do things that I wouldn't if I was driving it everyday and couldn't afford to have it off the road.

Your not wrong there, its addictive. Even worse wh you have a workshop and no need to get it on the road quickly. Way too easy to get carried away.
