Looking at getting back into another R

How do chaps?

Debating buying an R, several years after owning a good spec'd R. I bought the last one for £5000 back in 2006 and it was a very good car running 350 BHP. Only thing it was really missing was a good solid box.

My question is what does £5000-£5500 get you these days in terms of engine etc...

Thanks in advance.

Loads! You'll be extremely lucky to pick up one with any kind of treated box for that though. Most are still standard.

Thought so, my old one had a standard box and was fine in all honesty.

I take it people are still having big problems running big power on the standard box?

IIRC the standard box is good for 320 isn't it?

How long do you give it till pops though?

Personally i'd knock the boost down to take the pressure off the box.

There's a really nice black r on pistonheads at the moment, it's running just over 400bhp and seems to have a mint shell. It's yours for a touch over 5k, that being said it is running a standard gearbox. Other than the big power chasers, it seems the current thinking is keep the car around 330-350 bhp, set up the handling properly and enjoy the car for what it is, If I was to go back and buy another I'd probably go down that route.

iv had my shot peened box fitted for over 2.5 years now, covered alot of miles including 3 trackdays, fair enough im only running 1bar boost(300ish) but it get no special treatment, no point in having a car like this if gonna worry about whats gonna break next, its a 17year old motor summits gnna give sooner or later, personnaly dont see why you would want t run any more than 400bhp unless your a drag slag or plan on doing big powercircuits like silverstone all the time,

350 is the new 450, even the like of pulsarboby are going for responce over big bhp

No, it's in Suffolk, it's been on pistonheads for a while but seems like a nice car, I've just checked the ad and it states 440bhp at 1.5bar, I'd drop the boost to about 1.2 and you'd have a really nice car that's ready to step up for big power once you've saved up the money for an uprated box.

Just seen that one, seems a good car at a good price. Will give Sean Burr a call, the ad is 7 days old though. You say it's been on for a while yeah?
