i have just about finished my mold for a flat grp lightweight bonnet. it will either be available in grp in single skin form, double skin, and eventully in carbon.

my aim tho is to have a grp bonnet available for around 150 which is lighter than knight racers carbon item, but just as strong.

carbon wont be available for a while as at the moment i dont have any where to clear coat it to a finish i would be happy with.

ill get some pics up asap if there enough intrest i will make a few more, if not ill srap the molds

How do you intend on making GRP stronger than carbon, I wouldnt of thought that was even possible?!

Yeah but how do you intend on managing that?

If it were possible then they would be making F1 cars out of GRP rather than carbon fibre as it would be a lot cheaper!

Wet lay carbon is barely stronger than wet lay Glass Re-inforced Plastic (GRP) john, F1 use pre-preg carbon and kevlar and lay it in special way's/directions for strenth in a mould ,which is then covered in a bag and vacuem'd to get all the air out and then cure'd in a auto clave (a big special oven), Totally diff way to make strong part's than the cheap (but look's nice) wet lay shit we buy from the likes of knight racer.

Totaly agree, most are just one layer of carbon rest is G/F....I have made Pulsar bonnets much lighter than the so called carbon one's....

Fill me in grp? whats this mean
Glass reinforced plastic aka Fibreglass.

Much of the weight on the carbon bonnets comes from the reinforcing on the underside. It tends to be plastic not c/f so adds weight. My CFX bonnet was 6.5kg ish and I'd guess 2-3kg of that was the reinforcing underneath.
