Essential Spares

I'm looking to start collecting essential used parts to keep my pulsar on the road for Many more years to come:: I'm not sure how long manufacturers need to keep car parts available.. so it can only be a good to start collecting now for a rainy day !! So with the above in mind what would be the best parts to collect !! ??

Theres no obligation for manufacturers to continue to supply parts after they cease production of a vehicle.
I would keep a set of Engine sensors and actuators ECU interior electrical switches window regulators front & rear lights complete engine if you can and a gearbox t/case diff driveshafts the stuff there is no patern part equivilant of.

I think it depends on the car, if you want a standard-ish concours car the parts list would be longer than some one with my attitude of if it breaks upgrade. Engine sensors can alsways be replaced with others and configured to work with an aftermarket ecu, even an engine block can be replaced with a billet aluminium one (guy in oz makes them) if one could not be sourced.

So for me it would have to be body pannels to stop the inevitable rot, seals and rubbers and lights as these parts can't really be upgraded and pattern ones will be of lesser quality (in my experience)

If I had the spare cash (and space) I'd buy a spare rolling shell in ivory (like the one Craige101 is selling); as it has been said, that's a much easier way of getting your hands on the bits that can't be easily replaced... and it would give me a way to swap things out that need to be repaired or worked-on.

I think most of the engine parts can be sourced easily enough, and most of the "consumable" items like wishbones and bushes too. It's more the bits that last for quite a while, but get eaten by the rust monster that it's worth having spares for.

Cranks if you can find them - iirc Bob said even he struggled to get hold of them.

Ive been slowly stocking spares for around 6 months now buying anything i find at a good price.

I got a rolling shell just minus engine and a bare block for 250 quid so got plenty of panels for my own R,

With the prices they are going for these days, sometimes your cheaper just buying a full car take what you need then sell.

That's true... but you need somewher you can leave the shell whist you're taking bits off it.
I'm already in trouble with my landlord for taking the engine out when the clutch went - he thought I was breaking it... imagine what he'd do if I acutally was!
