does car need a cat

Does our cars need a cat to pass a mot, or can it still fail for emissions. I was under the impression that it was old enough it did'nt need a cat.

1990 or earlier will pass mate. However I'm aware of some rule about the date the car was imported (apparently)?

Its pre 92 dude, i think its under 95 for imports but cant be sure

Im gather then the cat might not matter, but it will proberly fail for the emissions then as this will still be tested? Ive mot'ed my 1991 H reg a few times and it was never brought up. I now have a k reg and i now someone also with a K reg which failed for emissions.

Mine comes up as a non cat car on MOT cert and its a 1991

I like to remind the tester that although mine might claim to be a Sunny on the V5, it's actually an import and therefore has no catalytic converter.
The problem is that once they've tested it as a catalysed car (and failed it), they can't take that out of the system so it has to be re-tested (at least that's what I was told).

Even if its new enough to be cat tested they dont have the cat data for it anyway, so they should "no cat" test it. IMHO

100% no cat. It has to pass the older style emissions test.
