Nitriding:yes or no?

Ok,here's my problem;I have been told than nitriding my crank could change its dimensions! And few people told me so in France.

They say after such a treatment, the crank has its structure changed and is not "in line" anymore (few tenths)...

So I have two questions:
- is the std crank ok for 400bhp (after having been knife-edged and balanced of course)
- is there someone who could tell me more about the problems one's can have after having nitrided a GTIR crank? :?:

I thought that the R had a really strong crank and wouldn't need to be replaced. Could be worth checking with one of the high power guys just to clarify it would be OK for 400bhp.

bikes use nitriding on forks, cuts down on friction, dont know what it does strength wise though

Isn't Ivan using a standard crank in his car - and he's running over 500bhp?

EH?

Why dig out a thread that was 6 years old?

If it was to tell us all that you're getting your crank done....it's been done before (my crank has been done)
