your best looking to buy a car from one of the owners clubs as you
have a better chance of getting a good one..

1) 950-1000ish
2) sounds like the rings have gone and it's got excess blowby, ie rebuild time
3) top ends can be abit noisy, due to injectors and solid lifters, but hopefully you can tell the difference between a normal rattle and a very worn top end rattle (could just need shimming, could be worse)

As Saddler said, probably best to get one from an owners club as you can also ask for peoples feedback on the person as well as the car i.e. what kind of personality has this guy got.

Also you can review posts by members previous issues with the car ad work that has or hasn't been done on the car. Probably alot safer (maybe more expensive in the short term) than going to someone outside of all this and taking the risk of being told a pack of lies or buying a rotten egg.

950rpm for normal idle running, not always a big issue if its slightly higher (slightly!). 1500rpm would lead me to think there is something suspect if not a good tuning reason for the high idle.

Out of interest were would you be travelling from?

Plenty of Pulsars with high idle problems... but that doesn't mean they've got something seriously wrong with them. Most likely is the idle air valve is clogged but it's so hard to get to that it hasn't been cleaned...

Excessive crank blow-by is a much bigger problem; I would say that the engine is f*cked...
