Just to add to Robs suggestions...

With ther rad cap off, and with the car up to temperature, hold the throttle at around 2500 rpm for a few seconds. This will shift any stubborn air locks.

Be very careful though, as the temperature of the coolant rises, the pressure will also build. This will force the coolant out of the rad filler, if the cap is off. You'll see the coolant start to bubble, in the filler neck, as this starts to happen though. When the level starts to rise, get the rad cap back on quick !

Ok now got a problem, after bleeding the system i went for a run out, not really booting it, got to a friends house and it was pissing water out the header tank. Water was boiling every where, fans are still working and temp gauge is not showing any signs of problems.

Checked thermostat and is was fully open, running out of ideas fast, any ideas?

Cheers

You might have a water leak. The gurgling was how I spotted mine. Possibly it's leaked enough to start overheating.

If you have no leaks (and they can be sneaky small ones on the back of the engine) then I'd look at the water pump or head gasket.

When you say looked at the thermostat, did you take it out and put it in boiling water to check it was working?

I had this same problem with a standard pulsar (GA15DS engine) i had a while back, water was boiling in the header tank, i took out the thermostat, no difference:roll: Turned out it was the water pump, when i took it out to look at it, it was badly corroded and all the fins were missing off it :-o

If your bottom rad hose is cold your thermostat isn't working.
Check your rad is ok visually.
Try bleeding the system to double check it's got no air in it.
If you have no leaks then it's probably water pump (normally leaks from the body when it goes)
Or head gasket.

One last option is that you've been thrashing it for a while and the standard rad can't cope. (would be more likely with higher than standard power)

i have this same noise on mine, sounds like you've left a tap on when the engine ceases. ive just installed a new engine (the old one had the same noise too) because of many problems. A few months back i had to get a new radiator because it split, ever since i hear this rattling noise (sounds like the noise you hear when an old, tappets gone fiesta goes by). Now, ive swapped the whole engine yet this noise is still there, could it be anything to do with the pump or something similar?

ps sorry to crash this thread just though it sounded similar to mine

Sounds like something is loose or your bearings may be shot.

If it's still gurgling then do the same checks as listed above.

excuse me for being dense but bearings on what? (im about as about good with engines as Glitter is as an au pair)

The turbo is less than 6 months old (360 roller bearing hybrid) and the engine is new in (only 800miles done and still running in) Brand new clutch, brand new suspension, i dont get what else i need to do, ive even tried setting fire to my wallet next to the car to see if that appeases it but no joy

sve just noticed this thread!
is the engine running at correct temp?
are the fans cutting in as they should do?
as has already been said check the stat to make sure its opening as it should do and make sure the coolant system is bled correctly, also make sure that you dont have any blockages in the rad as even a partial blockage can create havoc with the water system and cause temps to rise.

temp both oil and water spot on, pressure spot on, again engine pulling well and bahaving normally. Just that bloody tappetty rattle is still bloddy there!! just dont understand it at all bob! :-s

before the engine was removed from barts car it was not noisy at all, as i drove the car around 150 miles back home, so i cant understand what the rattle is or where its coming from tbh:?
is there anyway you can send me a vid of it running as i may possibly be able to hear what it is. if you were closer then i would take a look at it for you to try and determine what it is.
are you sure its not injector noise as they can be very noisy especially if you have one thats sticking now and again.
what did the garage say that fitted the engine for you?

Did you use the alternator and other bits from the rattly engine, could be bearings or somthing on one of the bolt on parts, or was it a complete engine with all the extras fitted.

it was just the block that mr bob sent me, the rest was mine although it had new clutch, alternator belt fitted. plus the turbo like i say is more or less brand new, i just cant get my head round it.

Ill take a vid tomoz morning see if the noise comes through, it sounds EXACTLY like a fiesta/escort where the tappets have gone. that is the best way to describe it. I know the injectors are loud but they are not usually this loud :? will see my **** if ive just shelled out for a new bastard engine and it wasnt that after all. it was that bloody Tdi North in Warrington told me i needed a new one!!!! ive got the old one sat here now not doing owt!!!!

The noise increases as the revs do, and is ALOT noisier the hotter the engine gets. it never goes above normal levels (temp i mean)

pps sorry again for crashing this thread, if any of the powers that be want to shift it to a new one be my guest! cheers

must admitt it sounds like the valve clearances are out although i cant understand how as when bart gtir built the engine he shimmed it too (so never did half a job) and as i say i drove car back for some distance and she was purring like a kitten.

send me the vid sve (although its very hard to diagnose what noises are by a video as they appear rattly even when quiet if you know what i mean)
what oil you got in it?

got 10-40w Mobil 1 (was advised by Opie's to put this in to run in the last few hundred miles) then i have silkoline 10-50w to throw in soon. It sounds EXACTLY as the old engine did. could it have anything to do with the timing or owt like that? I know bugger all like just a stab. I swear bob im one more tap away from an expensive drive down to your place!!! im sick of the thing running like this (its cost me nearly 2k to get absolutely nowhere!!!) :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
