Tyre Pressures

Do GTIR owners relise how important this subject of tyre pressures is?
It seems not, as there are so many different views on the subject.

I tried my car today on 33 psi front and 31 psi rear on my 17's.
But I'm not sure if this is ok?

ANOTHER QUESTION:_

When do you check these tyre pressure?
When they are COLD before a run or when HOT after a run?

I do mine before a run. But I know they can change.............. increasing 2-3 psi after a run when hot!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

So on the door pillar, Nissan say 2.4 bar!

That's for 14inch wheels isn't it?

2.4 bar = 35psi.

I think I'll run my front at 36psi tommorow, and rear at 34 psi.
(I run 17's).

yes mcleeve mate thats for 14's and i was always told to check the tyres before a run.

on the pillar its got a load of jap writing , the only bit i can read is:

185/60 R14 82H = 2.4 bar.
195/55 R14 82V = 2.4 bar.

T135/70 D15 = 4.2 bar!!! - i have no idea what these are...snow tyres???

You should check them cold. I run my 16s at 34 (fr) 32 (rr) but I'd say the best bet is to look for even tyre wear.

I have been running 36 at the front and 34 at the rear with no problems over three years on 17's(with rock solid suspension!)

NickB.......what's your tyre wear like running 36/34 on 17's?

Does it wear on the outside?

I presume you check them to that psi on cold tyres, before a run?

I put my r on track last sunday and can report that putting more pessure in the front really helps to reduce wear on the outside edges.
The pressure i put in the front was around 38 and the back35(195 50 15).

As I said before, Nissan recommend 37 psi.....if you really want to do it properly the tyre pressures should be adjusted as the fuel load increases/decreases and more passengers are carried but thats not practical

Nissan sticker does say 35PSI for stock 14s.

That's what I run on my 15s.

Having higher pressures wll make the tyre stiffer. So when my tyres lose pressure they feel terrible. I'm amazed that anyone can run 28psi (or whatever) and not want to run them harder...

Don't forget that if you run lower pressures then you're tyres will run hotter (more flex). I would expect that you'd run lower profile (bigger) tyres at a diffent pressure as they will have less flex (smaller/stronger sidewall).

I find 35 right for my 15s but wouldn't go any lower. I didn't notice any benefit from running them at higher pressures so stuck to 35.

Hasn't anyone else tried different pressures, specifically for 17s?
