turbo rebuild kit???

Hi All

As a few off you may know my sunny has been off the road since the beginning of December.

I am now just about to buy all the bits to put the engine back together and was looking at the turbo and appears to have a lot of play in it/ and the pistons and boost pipes are covered in oil.

I have found 2 kits on ebay and would like to know which one to go for if any depending on what you lot think

first one from Australia :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GARRETT-T...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2acd13ac

second one from Taiwan :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turbo-Reb...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c25dee308

price isnt too much of an issue but rather pay less to save the pennys for other parts..

thanks

Are you going to try and do this yourself? remember that the turbo is a precise bit of kit and will need correctly balancing

Balancing should not really a problem as long as you take the compressor wheel and exhaust turbine off the shaft in exactly the same position that you put them back on... Just be very careful and use a permanent ink marker pen to line stuff up and then wash it off with white spirit when finished.

By changing the bearings, oil seals etc you do not change the rotational geometry or balance of the shaft provided the compressor and turbine are put back on in exactly the same place they came off...

If you are going to do this yourself it is well worth watching these two videos about building a T3/T4 which are very similar to T28, you'll get the gist...

it's not as scarey as people make out and if you fancy someone else doing it send it to George at:
http://www.turbodevelopments.co.uk/turbo-remanufacture.php

he can even do 360 thrust bearing, roller bearing etc upgrades to your unit...

mine has done 20,000 miles since rebuild and still going strong no lateral shaft movement at all i checked this weekend whilst helicoil restudding my exhasut manifold. Helicoils are genius!

good luck!
