Taking engine out what to check and change

Im new to the gtir club and just starting to take car
apart to get engine out.
so question i have is what should i check and whats recomended
to change while engine is out. Im not tunning car
so not doing a forged engine build etc.
Also while gearbox is off what should i check on this and
is it recomended doing any bearing or bits while out?

any advice much apreciated

Why are you taking the engine (and gearbox) out? Surely that governs what you need/should/could do.

Whilst you've got the engine out, I'd suggest changing the hoses on the back of the block; just because they're a royal pain in the arse to get to if they split with the engine in.

For the cost of it, you might as well put a new DET sensor on; again it's really hard to get it changed with the engine in the car.

Is there anything wrong with your gearbox at the moment? - I'd probably leave it alone if there isn't, but you might as well put a new clutch release bearing in (which is pretty obvious if the reason the gearbox is out is for a new clutch).
There probably are things that are worth doing, but if you're not chasing power and it's working, why fiddle with it? I'm sure someone who knows more will correct me.

Sorry should of said car shell is beyond repair so taking engine
out to go into a new chassie. Thought is while out is it worth checking
parts etc to save hassle later.

water hoses at back of the engine. det sensor, starter motor brushes, water pump,crankshaft seals check the clutch and release bearing

Thanks for replys where is best place to get a det sensor from?
also need a new starter motor as one on car is rough

am i better getting samco or original hoses price wise?
