Oil filter relocation kit

The R is easier than a Hyundai Amica; that requires you to take the front grill out and use a tool on the end of an extension (it's right over the engine mount so you can't get to it from beneath)... then you spill oil everywhere trying to get it out of the hole.

I'll be damned if I'm going to pay someone to change my oil and filters; I've seen the competency of some of those mechanics.

It's got a Norris built engine and the current filter is wedged in and won't screw off the whole way and will need to be cut off, hence the need for the kit. It's because of some jiggery pokery performed when a new turbo was fitted. It's all moot now anyway, she decided to die last night and as a result the location or relocation of the oil filter is the least of my worries! Still I guess it'll prompt me to do some other stuff I've been planning for her.

Sounds to me like it might need the correct size filter putting on it once this one is off. I'm not sure that I see how it being a Norris engine could mean the filter can't come off... except if it has an oil cooler and the wrong size filter... and in the past the engine has come out to do the oil change. Surely the turbo is at the wrong side of the engine to affect the oil filter?

I hope you get it sorted anyway.

That sounds like a load of bullshit to me.

Like Pobody said, just because it's a "Norris" engine doesn't mean jack shit!

Someone probibly fitted a larger filter to the engine when it was being built and then once the engine was fitted it won't screw off because it's fouling the steering rack.

Just get the filter removed (they might have to cut it open eyt) and then fit the correct filter (15208-70j00)

3 pages of cant get a filter off:roll:
this should go down as one of the best threads ever:lol::lol:

doesnt matter whether its the longer filter or the shorter filter been fitted, doesnt matter whether its a norris, hiteq or whatever engine.
il guarantee 100% that the filter will still come off in one piece. they probably are too busy and just cant be assed to do your oil and filter change, but then they should just say so rather than feeding you a load of ol bullshit

My favourite story is from my father-in-law:
He took his new Nissan Patrol in for a dealer service; they charged him the book price for it, as you'd expect. However, he'd been bush in it, so it was full of red dust. When he opened the bonnet, there was his block still covered in dust and muck from the road, obviously not touched.
He hit the roof (as you would), and asked what the hell he'd just paid them for (in stonger terms).

It seems that the dealership didn't have a diesel mechanic, so they'd just taken his money, stamped the logbook, and hoped he wouldn't notice. Suffice to say that he got his money back, and took it somewhere else.

The sadest part of this thread is that you have not told us who these muppets are :frusty:

As I said before, it's all moot anyway, she's back in another garage (eurospec2000) and I'm waiting for the diagnosis, I'm hoping it's not too bad but don't want to be too optimistic, perhaps I can get them to change the filter and then fit one of the proper size, they see to know what they're doing. The garage I used before is one local to me, I guess they took one look under the bonnet and panicked and fed me a cock and bull story. I didn't plan to go back anyway but figured if the oil filter can be made easier to locate I'll be able to change it myself.

Forgot to say, If this is true:

"3 pages of cant get a filter off

From my first post, I should retire from the forum. I've only just got the car and as a result am on a very steep learning curve, When I get some more time, and she's back on the road I'll write a profile for her in the Members cars section.

You have to start somewhere, and it takes a while to learn what is complete bull, and what it the truth when you hear it. There are some classics that come out from time to time... and this happens to be one of them.

You're not the one getting slated bud, no need to get defensive! It's the garage that were the fools.

Yes - that's what I meant.

Usually it's "your hydraulic lifters need replacing"; really because I see mechanical ones? What makes it even funnier (or more painful depending on your perspective) is when they claim to be a tuner or import specialist, but quite clearly don't know what they're doing.
It's still a car when it comes down to it, most local mechanics can fix anything that's mechanically wrong.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've not got a great deal of knowledge about cars, so I guess I'm going to have to learn as I go along, I've found out it was as simple as a siezed alternator so i've sourced another (Thanks to GTIRUS) and hopefully I'll be able to drive her this weekend, the H reg automatic Galant I recieved as a courtesy car just isn't as fun.
