I notice some of you guys have have some fancy flywheels from the the likes of Jun etc.Is this really the best flywheel to buy I note its about 5 kilos and the ogura one is about 3.5.Is it simply a case of the lighter the better?

My father had a series 2 escort when I was a child the flywheel was a rally one and he told me that the car was not very drivable as the car revs kept going up and dropping all the time at idle and it stalled all the time.Would having a lighter flywheel mean that your cars going to be less drivable. Also would the ogura wheel have a shorter lifespan because its lighter?I was looking at the ogura one as they provide clutches flywheels for drag cars.So guys which one is best?Any feeback on these two items?

decisions, decisions, decisions.which post to answer as they`re all the same [:D]
lot of truth in what you`re saying about being undriveable with too light a flywheel.revs go up and back down again so fast it`s not real.too light a flywheel will also give you a really lousy idle as there`s a lot less momentum to help smoothe it out.

one of the best mods i ever got done was to get the entire bottom end of my car lightened and balanced individually and then together as units.the flywheel was also lightened and balanced but iirc it only had a couple of kilos removed.

at present i think it is an exedy flywheel that is in the car but i don`t think that 1 was particularly light.say no more.

what do you mean in,"really lousy idle " can you elaborate on this as Im doing some reaserch on this topic[;)]BTW are flywheels rated in how much torque you have the same way that clutches are rated.I thoughty you had the os giken flywheel to go with your clutch?

Would having a lighter flywheel make your car more responsive ie lighter and more revvy, this would be good for standing quarters right?
Which flywheel did you have when you achieved the 11.3 time?

He has an exedy flywheel like he posted, can't you read [;)]
Bruce has the exedy hyper single clutch with its own lightened flywheel [:p][:(!][V][V][V][V][V][V][B)][B)][B)][B)][:(!][:(!][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][V][V][V][V][:(!][:(!][xx(][B)][B)][B)][B)][B)][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][;)][;)][;)]

1600 miles and somethings blown!

the idle speed hunts quite badly and will cut out frequently with a very light flywheel.it just doesn`t have the mass to smooth out the idle speed or the momentum to keep the engine going.you need to have an idle speed of 2+k rpm to stop the engine cutting out.then you have to rev the nuts off of it to move off.not a really good idea for a road car imho.
with every exedy hyper single you get a flywheel to modify [;)][;)]

depends on who you speak to as whether my car has done an 11.02 run but it was with a balanced and lightened std flywheel.imho,a bal and lightened bottom end is the way to go.with my last spec the avc-r was showing positive boost building from 1800rpm.

i`ve never heard of a flywheel being torque rated before,i`d always assumed, rightly or wrongly, that torque capacity of a clutch was dependant on friction material, clamping pressure and heat dissapation.

you also lose a tremendous amount of engine braking which puts more pressure on the brake system [:D]

Who did this balancing for you, when I do a complete rebuild in the spring I want to get mine balanced seperately and together, I bet it made an increadable diference.

dp get it done by an engineering shop somewhere round about warrington if not in warrington itself.as i said earlier, even as a stand alone mod,it has to be the best money i`ve ever spent.really does help with the turbo response and general smoothness.
