Worn Baulk Ring...

Its a gearbox rebuild mate... Sooner or later it will cause 5th gear failure and an even more of a broken box...

Happened to me.... Just got the Quaife after that...

Mine does it too. (Doesn't hinder me up the strip tho cos you can't hear it at those revs  )
A couple of people have reported the putting redline mt90 oil in the gearbox has cured their crunching.

Cool, will give that a go. It runs perfect just driving normaly but when i was giving it a bit of boost it seemed to crunch a bit. Car is going off the road in the winter so will decied what i will do with the box then

Sent him a PM, also to add to this. Been to ld to use a thinner oil rather than the MT90, this a wiser move or stick with the MT90?

Had the same problem with mine, but with first, second, third.

Took engine out and sent gearbox away, bloke phoned me last week to say the input and main shaft bearings had gone might explain the whine then!

Should get it back on Wednesday back on road the weekend :D

Found out Info from my old tunner, he is a nissan hiteq (how ever you spell it)

It is a common problem in all nissan box's in the high powered engines. Due to 5th gear being the overdrive gear it doesn't spin as fast as 1st to 4th. It is basicaly a full bigger gear and need to wase it in when on boost as it isn't spinning as faqst as the rest o the gears. he has the same problem with his Skyline. A decent oil should help, he rates a 50w oil best in the boxes

I wouldn't doubt his info as he has worked for Nissan for years and now a partner in a good tunning garage.

Spinning of the shaft would be the job of the baulk ring... Which i would suspect is worn as i wrote above...

Although a change of oil may help a little but i still think you'll need to replace the baulk ring...
