alloy wheel dilemma!

am i right in assuming that the standard gtir wheels are fitted with 195/55/14 tyres?
if so then the 'tyre calculator' that i use says that 215/40/16's will be basically the same size as stock. the problem i have is that my 205/50/16's slightly catch on o/s/f arch on big bumps, so do i fit 215/40/16s which im worried would catch the arch still,(despite them being smaller) as they are wider or put a set of 205/40/17's on??

my calculations for the tyre sizes were used on

The 205/50 (611.4mm) are quite abit larger on diameter, so the 215s (578.4mm) will have more clearance. I'm running 225/40/16s and don't catch anywhere.

I think the standard tyres are 195/60/14 :?: , well that's what mine came with :? and the speedo read spot bollock everytime I went through one of those sensors that flash your speed up.
Based on that, I've got 195/45/16 fitted to my new wheels which should be here Wendesday

My R runs 205/40R17s with a 35mm drop No probs here!

How about trying 195/45 R16s on your car?

just out of interest what offset have you guys got on your alloys, and have any of you got 310mm brakes behind the front wheel as this also affects the offset of the wheels i can fit to my R
