Wiring help needed:GTi-R speed - pics (56k beware)

I have an Apexi AVCR hooked up to my GTi-R ecu. However, the speed wire on the ECU is not hooked up to anything. My stock (JDM) speedometer works though - so I guess it should be a straightforward hook up to some wire behind the gauge panel. Problem is - I'm not sure what I should hook into
. I attached some pics to see if it would help. I looked at the electrical part of the G20 FSM for the gauges - but this is different from my JDM panel. Any ideas?

No no no...Oops - sorry - It's not automatic. the engine was transplanted into a JDM P11 Primera that was automatic (SR18DE).

never seen one like that in my life. its coming from an Auto gearbox?

So if i understood you right, your ECU is not getting any speed signal. From experience on normal GTiR gauges, i am thinking its one of the upper two, Either the one with 2P written or the other one with RED paint on it.

Can you determine if the ECU is getting the right feed ?

Just to clear it up guys - the car was originally automatic transmission with a SR18DE. It's been transplanted with the R with a 5sp (FWD) manual trans. The only thing that works on the transmission light bar - is the Reverse light :-D.

Trip - I figured it would be either of them myself...but the Jap writing has got me stumped.:der: A friend of mine who's done other transplants into Primera's says that I can just tap off from the signal wire on the speed sensor on the gear box? Looking at the wiring diagram for the N14 - it looks like that should be ok?

according to the manual the gauge Speedo uses 5 wires.. One ground (shared), One 12v (shared) and 3 other.. I am assuming that 2 are coming from the speedo sensor and the third going to ECU.. Find the odd one out :)

Get a Multi meter and trace the 2 wires coming from sensor. Trace the ground and/or the 12volts supply.. the one left should be going to ECU.

I would for future upgrade sake, connect the ecu feed in the original location.

So I connected the speed sensor directly to the ECU speed input wire (which wasn't connected to anything).....Just to check... Well...the speed started reading on the AVCR....but it was wayyy off. And the car would bog at +/- 45-50 kph. However, luckily for me, I had my cousin check the map for the ECU (on Nistune) - and he said that the speed cut is at 200 kph, with lower limit at 180. And that's exactly what was happening. According to the AVCR manual, the speed multiplier needed to be set at 2. This showed the speed being 4 times as fast as the speedo. So the ECU was seeing 200 kph - and was cutting the injectors, and it didn't come back in until I dropped to below 180 kph on the AVCR.

Well for now I disconnected the feed to the ECU, and kept the feed to the AVCR, and increased the speed multiplier to 8. It now reads correctly.

This is less than ideal - as the speed input should come from the speedometer itself - since it reads correctly. But I had already put back the gauge panel together - it would be a pain to go back in there, and to try to figure out which wire is supposed to be the speed input to the ECU. Although I still plan on doing that some time in the future.....

Now my question is - since there is no speed input to the ECU, is that a problem? Only thing I can think of, is that there wouldn't be any speed cut at 200 kph! Which I don't expect to reach that speed (But never say never).

At least for now, I can continue to set up the boost settings on the AVCR.
