I got my dad a decent car cover from Argos that was a nice thick material. All i would suggest is that every weekend or so you take the cover off and leave the car to breath as the moisture over such a long period could have some bad effects on the paintwork, ive heard a few horror stories were car covers have lead to the need for a full respray :-(

I used to work abroad for like 6 months at a time, So my car was parked up for this time, Covers can blister the paint, so as Ant says it good to take the cover off time to time. Plus i had a mate that would start the car once every few weeks to let it run and just drive it round the block to move all the running gear and move the pressure points off the tyres.
