What is a normal idle battery voltage?

Hi all

I am trying to figure out if this is normal or not.

When I start the car and it's idling, the battery voltage is between 11.2 11.6v and then while driving, suddently the voltage goes to 14v which is more like what's to be expected. If I stop somewhere and let the car idle, it still idles at 14v then.

I moved my battery to the boot about 2 years ago. Would it be explained by the fact that the battery is grounded to the chassis in the boot and no cable that runs from the engine bay? Because when the alternator charges it goes up to 14v...

Anyone?

you have to raise the rpm at first start up to get the diode packs to kick in,

you used to have to do this with older cars so its a sign your alternator could be on its way out.

Please tell me something else ......

Noooooooooo I don't want to have to do this... it was a pain when the engine was out... cant imagine with the engine in!

vizi0n sounds like you may be ok to be honest. It may be tired but if your seeing 14v you'll be fine.

Well the problem is with my new PowerFC... doing the self-learning with 10-11.5v is sh*t.... I'd prefer having it on 14v to be honest.

Maybe I should do it with a car boosting my battery?
