What do std ECUs have on them?

I've had my R in an auto electricians to sort some final things out before I sell.

When looking at the ecu he said it had nismo printed on it with a gold plaque with a number on it. He's very good but not a GTIR specialist, so I was wondering (as he was), if this suggests that my car has an after market ecu or piggy back ecu, or do all GTIRs have this nismo ecu, being the performance car in the range n all?

Thanks for the replies.

To be honest a lot of the stuff in the link was a bit over my head, but the fact that it says that they either have a red or black label suggests that its maybe not std as I'm sure the guy said it had a gold label with Nismo on it. I'll call in and ask again tonight.

I would take a pic of it but I'm not sure how to get to it. Is it behind the centre console and do I have to take it all off to see it or can I see it without removing everything (again :roll: )?

Out of interest, if its not standard, and it has been remapped by Nismo, can it be mapped by a specialist over here as I've got a couple of niggly problems at the moment?
