Do they require gaskets or do people use sealant?

Loctite or nissan gasket sealent..do not use silicon cheap gasket sealent.

any particular type? Would tiger seal work as it oil resistant

Threebond 1207b, this is the best sealer I've used, can be used for oil and coolant, just make sure that the mating faces are clean and grease/ oil free, you can get it from Demon Tweeks/ eBay for about £15 a tube, you don't need much of it either, I've never had a leak whenever I've used it mate.
