Wasn't planning this.....

After many months of not feeling the passion for my R and already found my new project, selling the R was going to happen very soon..

Me and the mrs went down to a Kitcar Show in Newark a few months back to meet up with the company owners of a kit car I'm interested in building.. walking around the exhibitors outside, in the distance I could see the un-mistakable GTi-R shape. Before I knew it I was up close admiring it. On that the owner came over and we started chatting, and because of him I've now ditched AK Cobra build in favour of restoring my R

So thanks to JimmyBack, I'm now stripping my R down ready for a full restore. To be fair, I cant get over how little rust is on her, Slight bit below fuel cap, tiny amount on floor pan inside, the rest just odd bits of surface rust. I'm stripping the whole car down, sending all running gear off to my local media blasters, full clean on interior, engine rebuild not high spec though, full waxoyl underside once I've made a rotisserie ;-) , full respray sadly, paints just to scuffed and scratched shame as there's no rust really..

Currently sat on 6 axel stands with whole interior removed, doors and wings whipped off. Dropping engine next week sometime, cut off fuel and brake lines as they are pretty rotten same as the fuel filler neck bottom part, are these still available?

Also what's the crack with door seals? the one the door meets on the car body is damaged and also the seals around the door window, noticed the when the windows down, the seal at the bottom is green and hard, can these still be bought from Nissan?

Having not removed a windscreen before, how hard is it? Im looking to replace the screen, bits of metal imbedded in it from me grinding to close  is it just a case of thin wire fed outside in, then just wiggle it all the way round cutting the bond?

Will update as I go along, and when I start pulling my hair out

After 9 years of owning her, I couldn't bring myself to sell up :)

As I said above I can't get over how little rust is on the shell, underneath and under the trim pieces, took the side skirts off yesterday, and not a spec of rust under them.. One of my mates is a Ford fanatic and he's gob smacked how clean it is for 22 years...

Think I'd have been gutted to sell her and find it just got stripped for parts..

Hey buddy, glad that you are restoring it rather than moving on, I have a fuel filler neck in reasonable condition if you are interested, £25 plus a few quid for postage mate.

My 10 year old BMW gives me more concern for rot than the Nissan. I already had to spend money on that repairing a stress fracture where the metal had slowly corroded.

Good for you Gaz, keep the momentum up and you'll be done before you know it. Door seals always used to be available from Nissan but about £200 a side so bloody expensive....

I've kept hold of mine for 15 years now. It was laid up for the past few years till this summer, and I'd promised myself that if I didn't get the old girl running again, i'd sell her. Went autosoloing on Sunday in her and she didn't put a foot wrong (although I did) and even after all this time, she still puts a big stupid grin on my face.

I've a pile of bills in a folder dating from day 1, and I daren't go through and add up the numbers... This winter is bodywork time again - rust beginnning to creep in on the rear arches, and a patch on the passenger door, plus a general tidyup of chips and dings.
