Up-rated valve springs

I’m in the process of fitting some HKS 264 cams into my engine.

I’ve been having a read via the search engine button I also noticed that some people also up-rated their valve springs when installing cams.

Is this a mandatory action to up-rate the valves springs or just down to choice, what are the benefits to doing this process and will OEM springs cope with an uprated cams?

Cheers

You'll be fine with the standard springs for those HKS cams... You really only need to look at differnt valve springs when you are running over 11mm lift... Each cam type has its own recommended spring spec... The manufacture usually tells you the ideal lbs at fitted length and at full lift...

I'm running 11.5mm lift and am the very limit with my standard springs. My engine builder said they would be ok with the amount of power i will be running.

Are the standard springs OK for 8500rpm?

Not a chance!...

They don't have enough lbs behind them to hold at that rpm... But then for that rpm you would be running a more suited turbo and cam setup...
